Your circumstances Don’t dictate your success (so much as your surroundings).

25 Jun

Your circumstances DO NOT dictate your success- so much as your surroundings.

So I’ve been kicking this topic around upstairs for a while. And it seems to be a lesson that we all have had but seem to forget.

-Success is a given- when we follow certain rules. The situation that sinks a vast majority is they prefer their own rules. I have had two mentors in recent years. And both have said a lot of similar things.

-Both said my businesses were a numbers game.
-Both said it wasn’t always what I said but how it was said and the posture from which it was stated.

-Now the first statement is true even if you’re a lawyer. In that example you have to get a majority of twelve to concur to reach your verdict. And to reach partner you usually have to add to that task to the one of billing a healthy amount of hours. Its always a numbers game people. Sales. Art. Anything. Even Picasso and Davinci wouldn’t be valuable if not for the number of works they did. In their respective cases the works are limited. And since there is a smaller pool of work the value is greater. In car sales you have to create a vast amount of sales, so here your quantity has to rise exponentially to get to the top. Get the gist?

-My mentors were big on what you said, how you said it and keeping cool. Now that doesn’t mean you are the Fonz or you never show emotions. Wrong. Money comes with math and emotions. And that’s a big point but let’s examine the former points. In business a lot of people fail for using their exuberance incorrectly. You have to say the right thing. Not be right. Your venture may be amazing and makes millionaires daily. Your product might cure cancer- but if people feel you are selling crap- they won’t buy it.
-Saying the right thing at the right moment comes with practice and training. This indirectly relates to the numbers game as well. The more you approach people the more you will refine your game. Also you have to realize what statements and platitudes sound false when coming from you. If you declare you’re a boss, or you’re rich and mom is your landlord- they aren’t buying it. So learn the methods that work. Speak to what appeals to each person individually. Solve THEIR problems. Coach THEM. When you are relatable and believable, the people will follow. And to the last point- don’t lose your cool when you are rejected. Its tacky. Its pointless. And you never know who is watching. Your next partner, sale, or friend is where you weren’t looking so stay with your A game.

-My final point is this: I covered the rules you must follow. And they are simple. But the bigger point is you won’t win if you aren’t in a circumference of winners. A lot of us love our friends and family. We revere people who wish us bad. We spend time with people who can’t stand any success we may have. And that’s normal. And will aways happen if you don’t make a choice. When you run with losers you are one. When you run with sheep you will be sheared. More simply and less rude- When you run with workers you Can’t be a Boss. Your friends, like my friends, are cool. And they have been their for us. Yet if they mock or simply don’t support your vision then why are you spending time with them? Some of the people we love the most will be the biggest roadblocks. And as that is the hard reality I ask what will you do? I don’t ask that we become modern day Judas’. But I will insist we put to the side those who impede our greatness. When you play small we all lose. You are not here to serve only you. We all have integral rolls to play. If your friends spend all of your time together trying to stop your progress- they may not be your friends. They may also simply not understand you. In either case it is you who loses so it is you who must guard your future. People whom I love, I’ve had to be cast aside. I love them and in a pinch I’m there. However, in day to day life I’m not with them. I only surround myself with winners. The people I read, talk to, and work with are those whose goals either mirror mine or who have surpassed mine. This one simple shift I believe can change our lives.
It is akin to the guy who always dates rebound chicks. He has someone to occupy his time but no one to BUILD WITH. Life and Business are both team sports. So who will you choose for your team?

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Find your sweet spot

Find your sweet spot
(Aka your most productive time of day.)

Ok so I’m sure a lot of my readers noticed that I had to guest post yesterday. And worse I tried a time switch on when I posted my articles. Disastrous moments. You see I tried to attempt a change that wasn’t doing to suit my business model when it comes to my blog. I learned a few lessons from this and ill share them now.

First- If it aint broke don’t fix it.
I shouldn’t have changed. Now that sounds ignorant to some, I know. But I knew I’d have a hard time switching and did it anyway. My timing and groove has been pretty sweet and when I switched it I lost some of that- a lot actually. So if in your business or in anything in life: what works don’t fix. Stick with it and ride it out. When it falters. You will know. And when results drop, if you monitor those, you will know.

Second- stick with what you know, adjust accordingly.
I shouldn’t have changed the timing said that. I knew what worked for me and didn’t adhere. Ignorance wasn’t the culprit. The culprit was a knee jerk reaction. I decided to make a change and did it. I didn’t think it through. What should have occurred? The right way to do this was a twenty four (24) hour wait period. No business decision, or any decision for that matter, should be made quickly. Rash and prudent are two vastly different concepts. What solution would really kill right now? Write at the same time and send blasts in the AM. Write at the same time and publish using the que or advance feature to set the timing to coincide with what my readers want. You see I learned these ideas after rushing into a change. I missed them by not waiting. Lesson learned on my part. What are you rushing into? What shouldn’t you do? Ponder that my friends.

Third- Find your most productive day or most productive time of day in relation to specific tasks.
Now that my friends is the true meat of my article. You see we all have a time of day when we are tebow, lebron, manning, or jordan. The question is do you know this time of day when you reach your pinnacle? Some of you folks are morning people. Others only thrive at night. I am a night person. I do well in the morning don’t get me wrong but for completion on the play concerning this blog- night time. I get most of my best ideas in the afternoon. Specifically during my gym time which is between four and six pm. You see I’ve not only examined what time works for me but what times and what activities produce the greatest efforts throughout my day. The lesson here is that we have to collect data- Even On Our Selves. Take time to examine what is and isn’t working in every aspect. Remember knowledge is always power. And to be successful you have to move from a position of power and maintain a posture of power. And a simple way to begin that process is data collection.
Find your sweet spot. Know when you are productive and increase your productivity.

Are You Budgeting (Correctly)?

22 Jun

Are you budgeting (correctly)?

Now I’m sure most of my blog readers are used to my stupid questions. You see I don’t write for the savvy. I don’t even write for the lost. Most of the time I’m just writing to keep my mojo going. You see, writing keeps me. sharp. And the more I write the more my belief in ME grows. I’m building on my commitment. I refuse to fail. Most of you do too I’m sure. And so I ask-
Are YOU Budgeting Correctly?
Budgeting to most people involves rent, food, con ed, cable, and maybe car expenses. But if your venture is a home based business have you added that to your cost? You should. You have committed to wealth and freedom and this may be the most integral step.

-Budgeting is a daily experience.
Your budget is a living thing. It should be monitored and engaged daily. I would go so far as to suggest you look at it daily. I check my accounts daily to see what bills are pending, which are paid, and so forth. An additional benefit to this is unauthorized transactions are caught rapidly. Timing is everything with identity theft so being on top of spending will only help you.

-Budgeting is a lifelong process.
When you budget you should begin by listing all forms of income. Your next step is to list all your debts. Next calculate the values to see if you are in the red or if your in the black. You need to know this to gauge levels and create a start point in your budgeting plans. Savings, insurance, HMOs and so forth all have to be added to your deductions if you add to them monthly or bi-monthly.
Your saving account(s) and 401ks etc shouldn’t be touched but counted in your net worth. Remember establishing the baseline not only shows you the budget you need but gives you a framework that your venture can build from and then expand beyond your original vision to encompass an entire lifetime.

-Budgeting for life is only half the game.
You can’t simply budget for the regular occurrences. Life will throw you numerous curve balls. So why not work some cash into an emergency fund? Being ready is being smart. Nuff said.

-Budgeting for your business is Budgeting For Success.
If you have a budget already I salute you. If you don’t start one. It will help you immensely. Being aware of the factual numbers will give you peace of mind and a way to frame your needs and separate them from your wants. Work out what you must spend. Add in the amounts for savings, emergency funds and so forth. And enjoy the rest. Also make sure you tithe or give to charity. It ALWAYS builds your business better than you would imagine. BUT if you don’t budget for your business the rest is almost worthless. You wouldn’t open a McDonalds without cash right? So why would you start a venture, mlm, etc without expecting to put money into it. You have to spend money to make money. If you don’t want to- it won’t work. Just quit now. Seriously. If your business requires an auto-ship, and you are serious about it- budget for it. Don’t overdraw. Don’t grumble about a few less dollars for beer. Quit. If you refuse to fail- Awesome! Now budget for your success. The money you spend on a business or venture is an investment in yourself. It isn’t money down the drain. Its a physical and monetary commitment. Be proud of it.

Parting thought: are you dissatisfied with your autoship?
Your venture? Or yourself?
Think about that. You might not be an entrepreneur. Nothing wrong there. You might not like the product- find one you believe in then. But being your own boss, making your own hours, and never having to say no- I need that. And I bet you do too.

ITS ALL OVER

20 Jun

Its all over.

Newspapers are dying.
Netflix is killing satellite.
Roku and Hulu are taking a chunk out of regular cable and satellite.
Tv as we know it is dead.

Media has to change. Tv is dead. At least in the form we know it. Its akin to a plane where the pilot is dead and no one knows yet because auto-pilot is still on for now.
Change is a must. Nothing stays the same.
And while some cycles will repeat everything will inevitably change.
And so today’s challenge is simply will you change? Will you rise to the occasion or stay where you feel comfortable.

-In order to build upon this let’s start with simply accepting the necessary change. Once you admit that your plans have to be variable by nature you are on the way. Committing to change is the key step.

-Next in line you have to explore what you can change immediately. Examine your business model and look for ways you are falling behind the times. If you are a dot com maybe you blog now. If your android maybe its blackberry time. (I know everyone says they’re failing but multi-billion dollar quarterly revenues say otherwise). Change isn’t easy but starting with small steps will build momentum.

-After that go for what you don’t like to do. What you loathe changing. How do you determine these items/matters? Collect data. See what is and isn’t working in your venture. If you have three ad campaigns and two have a low percentage of conversions then your focus is to wide spread. Collecting data will illuminate failures, missteps, and missed opportunities. Elevation is always the goal and as such you have to look for the ways to achieve this actively. Take the helm and steer your venture to greatness.

Parting thought: The music industry model has failed. Vigorously. The people in charge are clinging to a model that failed almost a decade ago. And instead of growing with the trend they persecute the people who buy the music. And what’s worse is the artists cosign this behave in the mad dash for cash. Many artists even sign 360 deals which in effect give their record label a percentage of anything they do for the life of the contract. In essence your sweat builds their empire. So signing to a major is in effect worthless for many artists as evidenced by the amount of artists going the indie route and self releasing. (See Pretty Lights.). I guess some people want to go the way. of the dinosaur. And this too plays its part as the weak are weeded out via extinction. So Elevate or die.

There is no success to be found where change isn’t welcome.

Training: Buy and Apply

19 Jun

Training: Buy and Apply.

Training who needs it?
I haven’t seen this topic covered too much on the blogs or in general. The answer is EVERYBODY.
In every aspect of life you have probably had a teacher or a mentor. Someone generally illuminates the path for us. This is highly beneficial and should always be sought out.
And so-

-Training- BUY it.
WHY you ask?
I counter with why not?
In business you need a good cpa, no question. And the cpa in question should be proficient at a minimum. Same for your doctor right? Well these professionals. Accrued hundreds if not thousands of hours to obtain their licensing. And they also maintain their licensing by continuing education. To be the best you pay a price. And to excel beyond your last point you pay more. So why is it that some will assume they don’t need to cough up some cash to get ahead. What makes you different?
You are starting your own business or already have one if you’re one of my regulars. If you’re not you probably will. That being said if you could learn your business and skip hundreds of small failures for a small cash price wouldn’t that be worth it. Now failures make us stronger but there is a limit to finding inner strength and wasting time. Don’t you win if you skip ahead? Remember monopoly? You pass ahead of the guy with eight hotels with a simple roll of the die and you exhale in relief. Still not sure you want to duplicate that process on your terms?

-Training- APPLY IT.
This is going to sound ridiculous. I acknowledge many will say so and stop reading even. However many buy and ignore. More people buy to feel they are doing and never will. Let’s examine that.
Ever bought a gym membership you didn’t use? You paid the fee, made a resolution, and then life had other things in mind.
Or you dated a girl who prepaid her yoga classes so her and her friends could go and bond and grow? And in the end she was watching Sex and the City instead? A final favorite is the guy who joins a venture and it requires licensing so he pays out the refundable fee and decides he has better things to do than recoup that money and learn, aka MIND his business. I’ve seen a lot of this and its always the same thing. The back hurts. The engine wouldn’t turn over. But the sad truth is what we want we go out and get. So if you paid for a training series why won’t you take it. And then refresh it a few months later? If you don’t learn these basics you will get nowhere.
And you know what? I used to make this same mistake. I bought good training and didn’t use it. I took the next step only to sit down instead of running. And even worse- I did this twice! Yup I admit it. I bought programs that I knew worked from having seen it first hand. I spent my money, I talked about the freedom I’d gain, and then I turned on the you tube. Or I went out with the boys. People the time is now. Seize the day. Move forward. You spent the money. You invested in your freedom and your future. Now spend the one asset you won’t recover- TIME.

Buy your training.
Apply your training.
And then study it all over again.
And AGAIN.

Remember:
We don’t esteem that which we obtain too easily so earn your freedom and your wealth know and enjoy all of your days.

“Insanity is doing the same thing, over and over again, but expecting different results.”
― Albert Einstein
