What I didn’t know when I started my business.

8 Jul

Well folks I started with a different article and halfway through I chucked it. Well, actually its in the saved drafts folder lol.
The lesson there is don’t throw out what you worked hard on. And now for the meat of this article:
What I didn’t know when I started my business.

When I started my business I made a heck of a lot of mistakes. Some weren’t the business killer kind. And some were. I’m going to give you the bad and then the good so you can avoid my ignorance.

-Hard sell.
I was big on this. I tried to pressure anyone who would listen that I had the best idea ever! No really it was. And then I went on to the next one. Guess I was wrong as well as a jerk. People don’t want a hard sell. Ever been to the car dealership and the jerk who tries every tactic he knows- but can’t close you? Yeah, don’t be that guy. It kills sales, recruiting and even friendships. I even sold one solid lead into a different company. Lesson here is simply hard sell doesn’t work. Better yet don’t sell unless you are only concerned with a sale. Singular. Repeat customers need a relationships. Teams need leadership and friendship. Get it done people.

-Too many mlms (at once).
This is killer. I joined one that I made good money in. I hit the ground running and checks came in. I hit benchmark after benchmark. And I had a killer mentor. This guy was knocking em down for 25 years. Then I joined another venture. And this one was more sensible and I fell in love with the product. I didn’t even try to hard to move this one because I had checks from company A. And want to laugh now? I joined another venture that was super hyped and said to be easier. Also my recruiter told me the bad news about my venture that no one else had. Yup. So what do we learn here? I joined way too much. I spread myself way toooooo thin. You can’t focus on multiple targets. Ever see a sniper work? Its methodical. Acquire. Gauge distance. Take down. Repeat. Simple right- and yet I went right past it. That’s how you work a venture too.
Focus.
Do what works.
And then do it again.
Lastly. Do only one business at a time. If you reach the pinnacle, and you can almost move on autopilot then you build bigger. Example: in an mlm you build one complete team before you start team two. That’s how you build strong and build long.

-Beating up my warm market.
Man did I abuse people. Everyone was a target. Everyone was a casualty or a victim. Sorry to say but it worked that way. Anyone I knew casually or better was who I wanted to join. Didn’t matter if they would. BIG mistake. I didn’t vet anyone. Not everyone wants to join. And when you anger alienate or frustrate- you annihilate your business.
My advice to my readers is think hard and long before you approach those closest to you. Sometimes its better to seek your fortunes elsewhere and let them see you blossom. If you can work that way you will surely see growth. (If you can’t let’s chat on how to get that cold lead market growing.)

-Losing momentum.
In my current venture I got in quick. It was the perfect opportunity. And it had no weekly meetings in costly or distant venues. So I joined quick. It was a super easy sell. But I got in and didn’t worry. Business one had me swimming in money and confidence. So I was sullen- sort of. I didn’t care because I had joined and my auto-ship was billed right to a credit card so I wouldn’t miss a payment. Sadly I lost momentum in both ventures. Next thing you know I was committing cash and doing nothing. Now leaving venture one I don’t regret. What I do regret is losing that momentum from it. That company had me ready. It had me hyped. Its training via my mentor was good. But my lost momentum blinded me to the great training in venture two. So to sum it up my friends- once you have momentum don’t let it go. You keep it and harness it. That is the key to most anything in life. See a sports player- he or she will agree. They build from success to success until they have a championship or three.

-Not budgeting properly.
Oh man did I forget this. Your expenses must be accounted for. Don’t forget that they exist. The dream. The gold to be mined. The waiting fortune will ALL be real. But the bills are two. Make sure you know what your costs and liabilities are up front and write them out in monthly and yearly sums. Then let that number motivate you to exceed it by 600%. Why? Because a 500% ROI is a great goal and if you miss it you have a long way to fall.

-Not investing enough time.
I spoke on this indirectly earlier so I’ll keep it short.
They say it takes two to three years to turn a dreamer into a successful business man. You have to put in the hours.
You have to put in the sweat equity.
A big one I’ve heard over and over is it takes 10,000 hours to become a pro at anything. That’s right, ten thousand hours my friends.

Now here’s what I did right:

-I didn’t quit.
In my current venture (fyi it was the second in the three that happened almost all at once) I didn’t quit. I haven’t ever. I stuck it out and the longer I’m in the more fruit I see. It is working and working well. I’m putting in the hours. I’m building the relationships. I hit all the webinars and take notes. This is an easy sell folks: what you don’t quit you don’t lose. See my earlier post on said topic.

-I didn’t skip my auto-ship.
Sorry but if your venture has one stick with it. Missing months loses you points. But that’s no big deal. Sorry to those cringing but it isn’t. Want to know what the big deal is? Your choppy sloppy attitude shows your recruits, warm market, friends and family that they shouldn’t follow you. Why? Because you are inconsistent. Ouch. Want to know how that gets worse? Those who follow you into your venture will repeat your actions. They will model your inconsistencies and failures simply because the example you set is trash. Everything your business suggests- do it. And do it again.

-I multi-task like a madman.
Yup. That’s right. I can get it all done. How? Why? It works.
How: I make lists and cross off what is completed. Then I remake my lists.
I also set goals. Small goals that build my momentum. Now as for the why- I like to get it done. At work I make myself and my partners look good by doing just that. What is required gets done. And if I didn’t add this part: doing three tasks at once for me works. But I don’t recruit, sell, and file taxes at once. I go to the gym and meet the days required lifts. And then I talk to my fellow gym rats and see if I can solve their problems. While I’m driving home I dictate lists into my smart phone. I also dictate articles into said phone. See the pattern?
Good- duplicate it.

You cannot lose unless you quit.

4 Jul

Keeping it simple today folks.
You cannot lose unless you quit.

Life doesn’t become any easier to grasp and implement. A loser is someone who quits pure and simple. When you commit to an action you must follow through.
You may not come in first place.
You may not reach your sales goal.
You may come in third.
Did you give it your all? If so you won. Really folks- If you quit when you saw you weren’t going to get to the top this go round- you are a loser. A lot of life is simply showing up and participating. So if you do those two things to the full measure of your abilities you are a winner.

-Sales is a numbers game. All business is.
Even Obama needs the votes. Its how it works. So if you are aiming to reach the pinnacle and commission like heck- do you quit? No. Because when you do you breed failure and that skews the numbers in their favor not yours. Also when you quit you set a bad example for your team. Why work with a quitter? He/she can’t teach me anything is what people will think. You will lose future sales and recruits as well once people see that you aren’t the winner you claimed to be on facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. So why quit and then multiply that loss by an exponential amount. The same exponential loss can be exponential gain. Speak on the lesson you learn in your blogs and social media outlets. Besides adding authenticity to your journey it shows people your human and these people will join you. They will buy from you. There is potential to grow when we lose because failures make winners. It is akin to a baby learning to walk. We’ve all seen it and smiled. They stand then fall on their bottom. They rise and take a few steps. Then use your leg to cheat. Then they fall. Yet as time progresses. They gain balance and a sense of what they are doing- so will you. Also their muscle memory increases and learns. And then they are in their groove. The same applies to you. Success, winning can be habits. If you let them. So turn everything into victory.

-How you lose is winning.
Its true. If you lose a race and throw a tantrum people will disdain you.
If you spit on the winner or break your trophy you reek of ignorance and contempt.
What you do speaks volumes so why let your actions speak pure failure and disgust.
As I’ve said before- ACT AS IF. Act as a winner. Act as a king. Act out your success even in defeat and there is no loss.
If you come in second and the race was close and it was down to the wire- people will remember you. They will cheer you and even your opponents will be drawn close to you.

You cannot lose unless you quit.
Point blank period. There is nothing to think about. Every action and result is a victory if you make it. Every time you are bested teaches you something. Anytime you learn you win. For example you pitched your heart out. To ten ppl today. And the day before. And the day before. And you didn’t get one bite. However if you look at your results you will find answers. You will learn what you should do. You will discover what you didn’t. wrong. It may be the time you asked. It may be who you asked. It could be anything. But these little details allow you to craft your pitch. They allow you to emerge victorious in every instance. So the only question is will you find the victories that exist in every loss or will you quit?

Evolve or be left behind.

1 Jul

Evolve or be left behind.

So I know this is quite the comical picture but if you take a minute to examine it there is a lesson to be had here.

-Marketing changes with the times.
So, many people are on facebook and will stay no matter if facebook rapes their privacy or not (can I say that and not get sued?). Bottom line is facebook has become an amazing marketing tool but you have to know the rules. A lot of people are doing it wrong and they get two results: nothing or they get banned. And that’s actually a discussion for a different article. But I state these facts to illustrate my point- you have to know what is in and what’s working. Now I’m not advocating Google+ I don’t even have an account with Google+, but the point is you have to time the markets. Marketing is about more than constant repetition. You have to know what to place and where.
A lot of people were late to the Facebook trend and as a result they rushed and did it wrong- bad idea.
Learn your market place.
You can’t market in every arena the same. You have to learn the nuances and make them work for you not against you. Seen the flock that’s in fear because of Google Panda and Google Penguin? Yup they weren’t ready for the markets. You have to be on point. This is a business and if you don’t treat it as such you will lose. Now going with the assumption that you are here to increase traffic and or learn something then you need to know that Google+ and Facebook will both work. As the illustration pointed out you have to be ready for change. Never be caught off guard. I would dare say you should have both as accounts for your marketing and even differentiate content as well.
Google+ hasn’t met some peoples standards but in general you need to be on every page- not figuratively but literally. You want to meet your consumers EVERYWHERE they Are. Google+ is where they are going? So should you then.

The basic premise of this article is that whether you google+ or facebook- be ahead of the times. I advocate for neither but both can increase your opt-ins, partners, and customers in your venture.

The bottom line is be on point. If either supersedes the other you need to be ahead of the curve. Both venues can get you to success if you put in the work. The question is will you put in work on all avenues or will you simply be a favorite follower? Get on board people.

Fake it till you make it. (And other concepts you might like)

29 Jun

Fake it till you make it.
(And other concepts you might like)

Ok so it sounds nuts. I know. But I have a friend who subscribes to this theory and we will explore it today.

-Fake it till you make it is a simple concept that dictates you implicate your greatness before it has arrived in its fullness.

Sounds perfect I’d say. You see here you are being implored to put forward the millionaire, the king, the champ. Its akin to method acting. Get into the roll and you will succeed. And for some its the simple act of pretending they are king that makes them king. In life perception is key in any arena. If people perceive you to be successful often times you will be. People buy what you sell so the question is are you selling the thrifty kid who lives in his moms basement? The cheapskate who is smart? Or perhaps the put together businessman who is seeking partners not change? Its that’s simple to be the same guy and lose the same clients,
partners, and or investors. Solution?

-Act As If.
Act As If is simply being who you will become. When you are selling, act as if. When you are closing- Act As If. Be the Ceo. He’s the boss and if you are the captain of your ship so are you. Are you an industry leader? Act As If. Now I’m nut suggesting you go around pretending and misleading clients as an SEO genius or some equivalent. What you should be doing is exuding the confidence an expert has. Mastery of a subject or concept will add confidence and should bolster your ability to attract clients et al. Act As If means you be the BOSS. If you are aiming for success you should be the boss. Aren’t you the boss? If not you will spend all of your dies building someone else’s dreams. You Decide.

-What you do daily will dictate your success level.
Your habits should dictate success. A winner does. And so does a fake it till you make it king. You see you have to look the part and act the part. Are you dressed for success even to simply post a blog? You should be. You will see the winner or the loser based on your appearance- and so will everyone else. Ready to be the boss? You get your To Do List done. And so does the fake it till you make it guy- your list is the basis for success. You get it done in order to win. No matter your position to get to the top you have to do the daily grind.
Get it done people.

-Daily is your mentality that of a Leader or a follower?
If you wake up and treat your venture as a job- you have a boss. And you have failed. If you get up and don’t tell yourself you will conquer, you will be conquered. If you have a worker bee mentality than you will always be in the hive. Sorry folks but I don’t see success in this mentality. What we focus on mentally is what we achieve and if you focus on a sucky job- you will always have one.
If you focus on Modern Warfare 3- great. Congrats- you have achieved NOTHING. Now we could argue that you can build team skills, and leadership skills, blah, blah, blah,
Truth be told. You are losing. A leader focuses on getting tasks done. The leader will bring out the best in others. Leadership is a character that is built by doing. So when you wake up in the morning what do you intend to build? Good game stats or blog hits that total over a million unique visits in less than a year?
Do you look for knowledge or check email for the bosses newest missive on how he wants your productivity to increase and when?
These actions aren’t smart or productive.
Waking up and meditating is.
Starting with reading a book is. Intaking instruction and exhaling stress works. Getting the things you hate done first is smart. These things are the making of a leader. A follower dreads leaving bed. He hits the snooze seven times. He avoids productivity at work. He sneaks Facebook time on work servers. A leader will work hard at work until he is his own boss. And then works harder. Everyday you have to tell yourself you are the boss and then move from that perspective.
Get it done people.

Are you in the Sales business?

9 Jun

Sorry for the delay in my nightly article. I had technical difficulties. Apologies to my readers.
Back to topic.

Are you in the sales business?
Simple question. Well maybe not.
If your in network marketing, mlm or a few other choice avenues of wealth creation I’d say no. Why you ask?
Simple- your goal should be to invite and or get referrals solely.

Why. You don’t want to chase

You don’t won’t to be in sales mode all day.
What do you want to be:
Be in ABC mode-
Always
Be
Closing.
Simple. Elegant. Easy to execute. When you are recruiting you want to complete the ABC pattern- By being amiable, and by solving problems. When your focus is on them and not on your commission, they will join. They will be success machines and you will have given first and ultimately received as a result.

You don’t like this concept, or your new to the game- deal.
Become a master inviter.
The average venture will supply you with a successful upline, hey that’s why you joined right? And if it doesn’t RUN! So if you were brought into a venture by a mentor or great upline- let them do the work. Tony, isn’t that cheating? Never. You see. What works, works. And most mentors and uplines would rather you defer to their knowledge, abilities, and keen trained eye to seal the deal. Now this isn’t to keep you down but bring you up. Learn the business from their point of view because most of us lose business and motion when we assume we ‘got it.’. Get enough info to invite people to meetings or to get closer to them. And let someone who knows the 1,001 questions answer them from you. In essence- be the bridge to the wealth not the blockade.

Now its crunch time, four seconds on the clock and you need to inbound the ball for a magnanimous three pointer. How do you say? Easy. Be a referral grabbing Machine. Every person you meet whether they join forces with you or not has a warm market of 200 people. So, following an early articles theme- you speak to 5 ppl a day at 7 days you get 35 possibles right?
WRONG.
You get 7,035 potential leads. Now tell me again why you can’t #thrive and not just #survive? Exactly. We #thriveorsurvive.

Quick recap?
-Sell, when you have to.
ABC- Always Be Closing. You are selling when needed but you are closing always! close by being amiable, concise, and don’t beat the dead horse.
-Invite- always!
Always get people to meetings. Always invite them. Always get a phone number and or email. Always be candidly persistent.
-Referrals- bread and butter? Nahhhh.
That’s the steak.
Many people will tell you no- FACT. And they all know people who will beg you to let them say yes. So be respectful, calm, cool and collected. And get a list of emails and numbers (see the pattern?)…
Remember its not hooking the fish, its how you reel it in.

QUESTION (only answer if you are business minded)

28 May

QUESTION

Are you looking for a quick sale or a consistent customer?
Are you selling one unit and thirsting for the commission, or are you the smooth shark at the dealership? The guy who has a customer buy or lease a new car every two years.

Now that sounds odd but let’s be frank people- we all want to help others—and MAKE MONEY.
Don’t feel guilty. You deserve the best and if you work for it you will get it. But there are a few ways to skin the proverbial cat.
I’m going to skip the spiel and tell you what actually puts money in my pocket.
-CREATING VALUE.
-CONSISTENCY.
That’s it.
Your two step plan.
People will buy when they trust you. Be a worm and get an occasion sale. Give them value for their dollar and they will come back. And come back not only willingly but looking for more and more and….

So for step 1- CREATING VALUE.
This is key. people don’t buy Honda’s because of that snazzy paint. Its the VALUE. Honda has branded itself as synonymous with Value. They resell higher, last longer, and are low to zero emission. All key selling points for consumers. People see value when they see Honda, what do they see in you?
People want success, and peace of mind. If you teach them a path to both you are golden. How you ask? Simple. Teach them little tricks that save time or money. Show them simple ways to build site traffic. Share your story. Any and all of these can be used to build a rapport and a strong, vibrant team.
When you have something that is tangibly valuable- people will flock to you as customers, clients, friends and partners- so aim big people.

Lastly- CONSISTENCY is Key.
People will follow your lead. You say your system works, your team is the best, blah, blah, blah……
Prove it. They will check you out. They will want to see if you follow through no what you say and what you do.
Do you make the calls everyday?
Do you meet 5 new contacts daily?
Do you blog daily?
Do you smile and see opportunity everywhere?
They will check you out just like a kid does.
So the bottom line is be CONSISTENT.
Post an article everyday.
Post a video log that shows step by step how to get ahead weekly.
Make 3 new contacts and exchange contact info with them. DAILY.
Call your downline DAILY.
Call your upline DAILY.
Check your stats DAILY.
Create VALUE DAILY.
When this is done, results will happen and will compound over time.
As you are consistent you not only build your team and or biz, but you LEAD by example and set a standard that is PROFITABLE and more importantly RESPECTABLE.

What you do daily will dictate your success level.
