Stars Can’t Shine Without Darkness

31 Dec

Stars Can’t Shine Without Darkness

Simple and to the point. Not much for the last post of the year because I won’t belabor it. Stars can’t shine without darkness. Opposites make things work. My wife is my opposite in myriad ways. She’s math I’m english. She’s quiet I’m loud. But its a balance. But I wouldn’t have been blessed with her if I hadn’t gone through darkness.

Bad times make great people.
I was a jerk. And I was running a muck. And my train went off the track in early 2006. And I had to confront the darkness that I was in and the darkness I was in as I sat there in pain and anger. After I confronted the immediate situation I confronted my demons. And over six months transformed my mind and body. I put together my first book, shared my poetry in front of hundreds of people and moved forward in my life.
I was happy. I was honest with myself. Then I got my first car, a better position at work, and I went back to school. After that I made a commitment to my wife and we were married. All in about 9 months. My dark moved me forward. It shined me up- better said it polished me like a stone.
My dad was a jeweler and in his shop I remember the machine with the cream and little objects. What did it do? Made the diamonds shine. And I mean SHINE. I remember he would cut diamonds and etch gold to get it just right. He had to cut to shape to mold to make these rough items value show in such a way that they were unquestionable items of value, beauty, and
desirable by all means.
I remember when I started going to the gym. I was out of shape, husky and insecure with my prowess in the gym. Over time I got better. I took advice, made new friends and became the powerhouse I always wanted to be. Fast forward five years and I was back it after a wrist injury(remember the aforementioned darkness?). This time I got bigger and better. It was great. The lesson here folks is that you have to have a need, a want, and or a dark point from where you grow to be better than you are. From my darkness I’ve risen to have a level of comfort, peace of mind and self forgiveness I not only benefited from, but needed.
You gotta have bad times to know what good times are and where you are going.

You must help stars shine
You owe it the world and yourself to be the best you can. And from there to aid others in being their best. We are all worthy of greatness and called to it. When you don’t believe this and then act on it we all lose. At night we see all the stars not one. In unison they provide astounding views and in chorus they paint the night sky visually stunning. Ever been to Vermont? When you see the night spy without anything hindering it- it is truly majestic. And this occurs when we all work together.
Do you have a business?
Are you trying to recruit?
Build a team?
Worry about helping the people first. When you care for people, when you solve problems- you reap rewards. You change lives. Be helpful, Be successful.
HAPPY NEW YEARS FOLKS.

Got Goals? Porsche Makes Mine

Got Goals? Porsche Makes Mine

I’m going to be brief.
Goals make Dreams come true. Period.
When I was young I wanted to be rich. I wanted to have 10 million in the bank. But I had no goal just a selfish wish with no plan or goal. I wanted more for no reason. Fast.
Fast Forward a decade or so and my dream is now bigger, and goal focused. I want my own perpetually successful business. Heck make it three. After some failed attempts the path I’m on now is working.
My focused goals made it work for me.
I set aside time daily for my business and my mental growth. Those are the goals that
Make it work now. The Porsche isn’t gone. I’m still as in love with as I was the day the vp from my moms job gave us a ride in his 911. That backseat was small but I was amazed! And it was his commuter car!
Life can be grand when we apply ourselves in a dedicated fashion.

Why shouldn’t you expect MORE?
Heck why don’t you demand it.
Go out and get what you want. End the year by ushering in a new one filled with prosperity. Let your goals guard your mindset and be ambassadors for you as you march forward and seize 2013.

Lastly, Know that to gain _______ will require a sacrifice somewhere else.
Back to the Porsche. To have one my driving costs, aka insurance, maintenance, fuel will all rise dramatically. So I pay to play. Also to add that financial burden or blessing requires I create extra income not deplete my existing resources.
Use your mind to figure out your course of action. There is always a way. Go out and get that Porsche, lambo, brownstone, gated community home with the pool- you live your dream. Just let your goals get you there. And old fashoined hardwork. 😉

Who is subsidizing whom?

11 Dec

Who is subsidizing whom?.

Not to say I agree or disagree but lets look at someone else’s perception.

Can’t hurt right?

Who is subsidizing whom?

March 15, 2012 | Posted by Ken Cohen

In its lead editorial yesterday, The Wall Street Journal took a hard look into the Obama administration’s campaign to end so-called “subsidies for Big Oil.” The paper’s conclusion turns the administration’s claims on its head: “The truth is that this industry is subsidizing the government.”

This is the flip side of the coin that few realize – the oil and natural gas industry is an enormous source of revenue for the U.S. government. In fact, the industry pays the federal government approximately $86 million a day – or about $31 billion a year – in rents, royalties, bonuses and corporate taxes. That doesn’t even include the payments made at the local and state levels.

At times, the industry is actually sending more to local, state and federal governments in taxes and fees than what it earns in the United States. According to the Journal:

“Not paying their ‘fair share’? Here’s a staggering fact: The Tax Foundation estimates that, between 1981 and 2008, oil and gas companies sent more dollars to Washington and the state capitols than they earned in profits for shareholders.”

And, keep in mind, the taxes the oil and gas industry pays are only part of a much larger contribution to the U.S. economy. Our industry and the activities that support it accounted for more than $1 trillion of the U.S. economy in 2009, or about 7.7 percent of U.S. gross domestic product, according to a recent study. The industry contributes an estimated $470 billion a year in spending, wages and dividends alone.

So what about those “subsidies” that oil and gas companies supposedly get?

“These aren’t direct cash handouts like those that go to the green lobby,” the Journal says. “They’re deductions from taxes that cover the cost of doing business and earning income to tax in the first place. Most of them are available to other manufacturers.”

I’ve talked at length on this issue, but it bears repeating – attempts to misrepresent the industry’s tax contributions are nothing more than an attempt to pick winners and losers in the marketplace. The fact is that taxpayers would benefit far more from the revenues associated with increased access to U.S. energy supplies than they would from punitive tax measures aimed at oil companies. Policies that support greater energy development could generate $800 billion in government revenue by 2030 through lease sales, royalties, production fees and taxes, according to a recent study.

So when taxpayers see these claims about “subsidizing” oil companies, I think it’s valid to ask: “Who is subsidizing whom?”

4 TIPS FOR GREAT DAILY PRODUCTIVITY

20 Nov

4 TIPS FOR GREAT DAILY PRODUCTIVITY
WORK STINKS. Punch in, drudgery, drudgery, drudgery-punch out. While that might not be your daily grind many people are stuck in this exact rut.
Password Productivity-
Passwords are needed on everything except the kitchen sink. Sadly people will load viruses, steal credit cards and identities or even crash servers for entertainment. So while we could lament the loss of altruistic behavior I instead see a golden opportunity. Why not use your password as a reminder of a goal or objective. Set a deadline, or timeframe. Example: I promised myself 15 grand pure profits by 2015. So why not make the password 15Grand2015. In this fashion your password is continuously bombarding your conscious and subconscious with a goal. You aren’t agonizing over it. You aren’t redirecting or even misdirecting focus

itunes ready and waiting-
itunes is a great tool. It has your music ready, cataloged and grouped per your liking. I don’t know about the rest of you but music is an expansive tool for me. In the office it sets a smooth groove for me to work in akin to a needle running along the old 45 records- Rich quality, continuity, and completion. When I hit the gym, I have a list ready just for it. These are the tracks that get me the most excited. itunes becomes my hype-man. Lil’ trick folks, use that ‘hype’ playlist only when you need to get hyped up. The songs lose some efficacy when you hear them over and over again. Music can elevate or lower moods as well so use it tactfully and you will find you are quicker, and more flexible at all your tasks.

-Variety makes it all better-
Variety my friends is the seasoning of life. It makes it all better. This is why I enjoy multitasking so much. I take variety and busy schedules and turn them on their ear so they work for me. There is nothing greater than enjoying the differences. I won’t belabor this point.
Suffice it to say enjoy all 31 flavors folks.

-Life Goes On All the Day Long-
No matter what happens in life- the clock keeps ticking. To lose time is ridiculous. Forward motivation is your only concern. In my blog as I am building it, I struggle too. I’ve had days where I can’t post or have missed deadlines. And yes I own up to it. It is totally a TONY issue. Now from this point I can sulk and lose time or reflect and move on. I choose to try and reorganize my time, the flow of my day so to say. I make it a habit to have multiple drafts ready and to try to post 12 hours earlier than I am accustomed to. These little steps have increased productivity and expanded my creative cycle.
Do I still make mistakes? Sure.
Do I regret it? Not at all.
My life is multifaceted and as such I refuse to lose time with my family, friends, or even my craft. I love what I do and will continue to chronicle my entrepreneurial adventures and a trick or two I learn along the way.
Carpe Diem it up folks!!!

‘IT’S CHESS NOT CHECKERS’

9 Nov

‘IT’S CHESS NOT CHECKERS’

Today I’m keeping it short.
Mindset is the name of the game. Life is mindset. If you perceive yourself as a loser- U ARE. If you see a winner in the Mirror- the Winner is YOU. There’s isn’t much to think about. You see self perception is everything. To see the leader you are is more effective than to train to lead. The most qualified guy on paper is usually the least skilled. Not always true I concede but who you are on paper- as in certifications and education- doesn’t hold a candle to who you are in the field.
The guy who leads the team to victory is the king. He paid the cost. Leading is acting.

And from here I reference my title-
‘IT’S CHESS NOT CHECKERS’.
Simple. Eloquent. Factual.
Checkers has strategy. It requires skills, tactical motion, and patience.
Chess however multiplies all those efforts exponentially. The pieces have greater variety in motion and more skills sets. Indeed some attack in pairs. It is quite literally war. The troops advance. They close ranks. The king runs. Indeed even your queen who runs the gamut can be reduced to kindle within 5 moves!
What do you do? PLaY CHeSS. Skip the checkers. Every move in each endeavor you embark on requires you think 5 steps ahead. Every action sets its own reaction. You don’t anticipate the clients wants you dictate them. Gretzky adhered to this. He said go where you want the puck not where its going. Remember that guy; jobs? Yeah Steve. He ascribed to Gretzky’s philosophy. Two great innovators and champions in the arenas they chose almost inherently knew you had to control the game. You had to make moves. Indeed you don’t play. It isn’t a game.
And neither is your business. You have to know the moves.
Anticipate the factors.
If you can’t see what’s coming down the pike you are failing already.
Every entrepreneur is playing Chess.
Checkers is for employees.
See the difference- its so simple its astounding. When you run a business you prepare. And when your plan fails you are ahead anyway. Business requires leadership. You are on the offensive. I’ll tell you one thing I learned playing chess. The guy on the defensive- He lost already. The offensive player is winning. He’s dictating terms. He runs the board. He controls the game and the flow. In your business are your creditors dictating your income aka achievement levels or are you? You must always play the game on your terms. Not to say there aren’t setbacks. Heck, I have had them all along my journey. Yet the push from failure set my troops loose with a greater tenacity to dictate the terms of the surrender. War has casualties. And as such. Treat my business with the same mentality.
And from there, there is one choice only:
Live or die. I won’t die. I won’t quit. I will succeed. I will triumph. At the very least my enemy will have a Pyrrhic victory.
Such catastrophic losses so as to preclude a victory. Chess. Not checkers. Victory. Not losing. Plan every angle. Be ready for set backs. Anticipate your opponents moves, aka the consumer or competition. And don’t forget to leave room for your own margin of error. We all drop the ball. But the entrepreneur who plans ahead wins. Have a business plan. Have a mentor who knows the game. See where you need to go- and Crush the competition.
