5 Little-Known iPhone and iPad Apps for Startups

Being a small business owner can be trying.  Times are tight, the economy is dreary, and you have to make every dollar stretch.  To add to the general mayhem you have all the day to day tasks of accounting, management, sales tracking and administrative needs on your shoulders.  Find this daunting?  Well I’ve got 5 iOS apps to make you more efficient.

Invoice2Go: This app lets you create invoices and estimates on your iPad and even your iPhone. You can make one complete list of all billable items and store them cohesively. Perhaps you might prefer the Receipts2go plugin to bill for items that are specific only to certain jobs or accounts. To top it all off your completed invoices can be printed right from the app or emailed if you are so inclined.

You can get three free invoices and after that its about 25.00 bucks a year for a 100 invoices.  By the way, you can even see your financials at a glance with this app.

Docusign Ink: No more printing and scanning with this app. Sign all sorts of documents electronically and save time you can use your phone or devices camera to take a picture of relevant documents or upload from a cloud drive- cool right?  Docusign Ink even converts documents easily so you drag and drop your signature. Simply save and send to complete the process.

Client forgot to sign? No problem, simply have them sign vial email. The catch is simple: unlimited documents can be signed for free.  However there is a limit of five additional signatories. After that they will ask you to purchase a plan starting at 15.00 bucks a month.

FYI- Doucsign Ink is also available on Android.

Bento 4 for iPad: A recently redesigned personal database app that helps you present and organize data. What makes Bento 4 stand out from the crowd is that it allows you to combine tables and text fields with images by simply drag and dropping utilizing one of the 40 free templates.  Highly useful in multistep projects or sales meetings, Bento is quite versatile. With a price tag of 9.99 your wallet doesn’t get beat up either.

Concur: An organizational tool/app for frequent travelers. Manage your itinerary, book hotel rooms, check airline reservations. Concur is also great for tracking your expenses on the go.  Input information by hand, or use e-receipts. You can also scan receipts. Trips over? Concur will combine all the info into one cohesive expense report.  While the app is free on iPad and iPhone you will need to link it to a desktop Concur account.  This however is 8.00 bucks per person, per month.  A little more than some want to spend but a great report, and it’s a tax deduction I’d bet (See your CPA for that info though).  Concur is also available on Android for my so inclined cohorts.

Delivery Status Touch: Move a lot of merchandise? Delivery Status Touch can help keep track of them. 4.99, gets you an app that works directly with all of the major delivery companies/services and automatically gets information from Amazon, Apple and Google Checkout. As soon as a package is added it will appear on the the home screen. After that point you can track the progress of each and every package you have; coming or going.

‘IT’S CHESS NOT CHECKERS’

9 Nov

‘IT’S CHESS NOT CHECKERS’

Today I’m keeping it short.
Mindset is the name of the game. Life is mindset. If you perceive yourself as a loser- U ARE. If you see a winner in the Mirror- the Winner is YOU. There’s isn’t much to think about. You see self perception is everything. To see the leader you are is more effective than to train to lead. The most qualified guy on paper is usually the least skilled. Not always true I concede but who you are on paper- as in certifications and education- doesn’t hold a candle to who you are in the field.
The guy who leads the team to victory is the king. He paid the cost. Leading is acting.

And from here I reference my title-
‘IT’S CHESS NOT CHECKERS’.
Simple. Eloquent. Factual.
Checkers has strategy. It requires skills, tactical motion, and patience.
Chess however multiplies all those efforts exponentially. The pieces have greater variety in motion and more skills sets. Indeed some attack in pairs. It is quite literally war. The troops advance. They close ranks. The king runs. Indeed even your queen who runs the gamut can be reduced to kindle within 5 moves!
What do you do? PLaY CHeSS. Skip the checkers. Every move in each endeavor you embark on requires you think 5 steps ahead. Every action sets its own reaction. You don’t anticipate the clients wants you dictate them. Gretzky adhered to this. He said go where you want the puck not where its going. Remember that guy; jobs? Yeah Steve. He ascribed to Gretzky’s philosophy. Two great innovators and champions in the arenas they chose almost inherently knew you had to control the game. You had to make moves. Indeed you don’t play. It isn’t a game.
And neither is your business. You have to know the moves.
Anticipate the factors.
If you can’t see what’s coming down the pike you are failing already.
Every entrepreneur is playing Chess.
Checkers is for employees.
See the difference- its so simple its astounding. When you run a business you prepare. And when your plan fails you are ahead anyway. Business requires leadership. You are on the offensive. I’ll tell you one thing I learned playing chess. The guy on the defensive- He lost already. The offensive player is winning. He’s dictating terms. He runs the board. He controls the game and the flow. In your business are your creditors dictating your income aka achievement levels or are you? You must always play the game on your terms. Not to say there aren’t setbacks. Heck, I have had them all along my journey. Yet the push from failure set my troops loose with a greater tenacity to dictate the terms of the surrender. War has casualties. And as such. Treat my business with the same mentality.
And from there, there is one choice only:
Live or die. I won’t die. I won’t quit. I will succeed. I will triumph. At the very least my enemy will have a Pyrrhic victory.
Such catastrophic losses so as to preclude a victory. Chess. Not checkers. Victory. Not losing. Plan every angle. Be ready for set backs. Anticipate your opponents moves, aka the consumer or competition. And don’t forget to leave room for your own margin of error. We all drop the ball. But the entrepreneur who plans ahead wins. Have a business plan. Have a mentor who knows the game. See where you need to go- and Crush the competition.

Something Different to Add Some Flavor. A Poem From a Fellow Entrepreneur:

Recovery

Everyone awaited the anticipated storm Sunday night
No patience, so when it didn’t arrive we took it light
Typical New Yorkers showing pride when things get rocky
Figuring it will be some nasty rain making things sloppy
Hyped cause of days off from work, damn we’re cocky.
People making comparisons to the storm of Summer 2011
Making predictions like a Bible being read by a reverend
Forgetting that the ultimate power that be resides in Heaven
It’s his decision on the impact and who to sacrifice
More important than Santa’s list about who’s naughty or nice
He gave us Free Will along with life
Like the man in the back of news cameras on a Jet Ski
Or the cars and deaths impacted by a tree
Whoever thought you could Canoe in New York City?
Those unaffected call it crazy
Those impacted call it a travesty.
Many home without power
Facts proven by texts I received from peoples in Jersey & Staten Island
People are angry this is no time for violence
Only efforts of valiance
First responders, EMS, NYPD, FDNY compounded
Monday we were hit hard by Sandy
I hope that they have an Action Plan A, B, & C
Making strides to put things back together
Beginning Tuesday once we got regular weather.
Too many clowns making jokes for the sake of laughter
But I know that adversity is the best test of character
Governor Christie in Jersey saying forget the elections
Only focusing on the future looking forward like the Jetsons
Obama leaving the campaign trail for this state of emergency
Taking Action with unlimited funding, another testament to his legacy
Impeccable timing cause we need leaders with compassion
Not racist, politicians whose ideas are fascist.
No trains, limited buses
This is no time for fussing
Businesses and schools closed
Astronomic levels of water rose
Flooding train stations and streets
Overflowing the FDR with a never ending peak
Families on roofs, water just beneath their feet
Companies attempting to open using backup generators
Due to no power
Freezers & Refrigerators
Full of spoiled food smelling sour.
Somewhere along the lines this was written in the scriptures
Most didn’t believe til they say saw Instagram pictures
Those visions becoming fixtures
Upon one’s brain
Hard to get them out like a bad stain
But no need to complain
Cause it happened
My condolences to those affected
We won’t leave y’all neglected
Redman Style it’s “Time for some Action”
Thanksgiving approaching let’s make sure these families eat
On Christmas have a gift or two under the tree
Don’t turn your back & flee
If that’s your plan, say to yourself “What if that was me?”
Time to be more appreciative
Evaluate the way we live
Deviate from the negative
Increase the positive
Turn the M upside down in the word Me
Think about We
With a focus on humanity
Cause natural disasters don’t know colors
Only how to impact God’s children who are sisters & brothers
We won’t let the Devil eat, no poking us with his fork
I believe we will overcome adversity again, stand up NEW YORK!

Action Reading List

Action Reading List

Ok folks I’ve got a few books on my list that I think everyone should read. Its a short list and I’m going to skip Napoleon Hill et al because we as entrepreneurs are inundated with the likes oh him, The Secret, and many others. Not knocking them per say I just think a different avenue and a fewsh eye/perspective is more useful these days.
Let’s face it; the economies changed. The needs of the people have as well. So we as entrepreneurs and marketers need to be innovators and leaders. Not to mention educators, students, and help-mates to the masses.
And in that vein I present you my top 7 books you need to read.

The Charge.
By Brendon Burchard, this book is no nonsense and a great read. Not his first but my first read of his tomes. Recommended to me by the Great Ray Higdon (@rayhigdon).
This book will help clear your focus and activate your drives. Truly groundbreaking in my humble opinion.

Rogue Warrior.
Richard Marcinko’s autobiography of how he started Seal Team Six. This man was an innovator, achiever, and believer. He believed in his country and himself. Nothing stopped him from being the best. Great read with an easy format. A guy in the first mlm I made money with recommended it to me and he was right.

48 Laws of Power.
By Robert Greene, one of my fave reads ever. It is considered ruthless by some but the lessons are useful. Also its historical references and layout are vastly intriguing. I’d buy it twice. I won’t say more because the book speaks for itself.

33 Strategies of War.
Another classic by Robert Greene. I love this guy. Having bought all his books I can clearly tell you that this one is as much a game changer as 48 Laws of Power.

Steve Jobs.
The acclaimed biography by Walter Isaacson is a no holds barred look into the life of Jobs. Indeed it could be called a dig as Isaacson went down the rabbit hole that was Jobs. There is a treasure trove of knowledge to be had here and a great read as well. One of the books that is truly amazing my mind. It excites and inspires at the same time.

The One Minute Millionaire.
Mark Victor Hansen and Robert G. Allen, two literary geniuses in their own right with sales that astound. True innovators and creators. The team up for this book is amazing. It has a fictional and factual counterpart wrapped up in one book. Truly amazing and the one book I’ve read as many times as 48 Laws of Power. I literally learn every time I read it. I got it 30% off but after reading it know I would have paid 60% extra to own it.

Rich Dad Poor Dad.
Rober kiyosaki at his best. Some hate him. Some don’t. Overall I like the guy. While I’ve taken his courses too I think I’m going to stick with the books. This first one I have purchased three times. What I do is read it and give my copy to someone else. Its a great book for opening the eyes of the reader.

BONUS:
Heavy Hitters Magazine aka HH.
Not a book but a staple in my collection.
Indeed it is the only magazine I buy. Every two months it features insane quotes, cars, and profiles of self made entrepreneurs. People who most of us can relate to.
The most inspiration you can buy for $6 bucks. Guaranteed.

Are You Running in Place?

Are You Running in Place?

I’m going to keep tonight’s article short.
Heck, I may even rant a bit. But the point. will be clear. Are YOU running in place?
I was. Let’s break it down.

My friends and I would make up the best ideas. We would write them out. Talk all night. And then we did nothing. Fast forward a decade and a lot of my friends did nothing. Well, to be truthful I waited a while too. I started a few projects and never finished. I kept all my materials which I count a success, but it doesn’t mitigate the loss of action. You see that being marked as a success is akin to running in place. It symbolizes me taking action but not moving forward. Running in place is poison.

I’ll give you another example: John Q joins Simucore. The newest network marketing company with a billion in revenue already! He is excited. He is pumped, and he’s paid up. Now he’s at home on Xbox. Great system too- the xbox I mean. He hasn’t spent a minute learning his business, compensation plan, or tried recruiting. Heck, he joined- Good enough! WRONG! John Q is Running in Place. He started the race but paused after the pistol. This happens to many of us. We join and figure good enough. I once joined a biz and then did nothing after the 2nd day. I figured hey, I’m in business. No big deal. I’m doing great! Time will be on my side. And so I made no money. I made no gains. I also had money going out monthly on product. I loved the product- but lost out due to inactivity. Don’t be Me. I’m not (anymore).

How do you beat this?
-Make a list of goals to hit.
Your list has to be everything you need to achieve and the things you want to achieve.
Every time you accomplish one goal add one. Its not enough to be moving you have to be winning. And when you’re up aim higher.
-Tell everyone your goals and plans.
Tell’em all! Heck, put it on facebook! Make yourself publicly accountable and watch the results add up. No one wants to fail in public. and the haters will only add fuel. This concept is sound and works great if you do it repeatedly.
-Accountability Partner.
Lastly you want an accountability partner.
Find another entrepreneur and make a pact. Another hungry soul that wants what you want: success. Make each other accountable by any means necessary. The secret to making this work? Easy. You work and play with this individual. When you hangout with winners you win. When you hangout with losers you lose. And when you are all at the bar for happy hour, instead of meeting clients or studying spreadsheets-
you’re running in place.
