BILLION DOLLAR AFTERMARKET

31 Jul

Everyone seems to have an ipad, heck some of you only shop apple. I’m taking mac air, iphone 4s, and the ever handy ipad. Steve Jobs may have set the bar but he also created a whirlwind of value and a few smart people seized the day. You see ipad and ipod et al after market products is over a billion dollar industry. That’s right the people not directly licensed by apple and or the products not sold in licensed retailers account for a billion plus dollars in sales.
So my friends let’s see what conclusions and lessons we can draw from this fantastic economic activity.

-See the opportunity.
When the ipod took the music world by storm people went ape. The price was irrelevant because people had what they wanted in hand. A product that was cool, sheik, useful and convenient. However the mass marketers and wholesalers who had a brain used this massive media and fan frenzy to line their pockets. Both low quality and high quality goods were churned out daily in a few different countries to feed the consumer greed and fad chasers lust for newer and better. Cases, workout sleeves, special headphones and even watch bands for certain ipod nanos stormed the market in a manner as epic as the taking of the city of troy. People saw and bought. And then bought some more. And as Apple keeps churning out that nifty product the aftermarket does too. Opportunity is staring you in the face- are you looking for it or coasting on your day job?

-You don’t need to have invented the wheel to feast on it.
Now a lot of these aftermarket products are loosely based on or directly copied from apple products and their licensed partners. However this stopped no one from creating competing consumer goods at a tenth of the price or a little more. The smart business men didn’t even create a product. They seized the moment and simply imported the product and tacked on a great enough percentage to fill their coffers and not tick off potential customers. Even 7Eleven got in on the deal selling products they didn’t own, license, or include in their aggressive marketing campaigns. Yet the products are there to catch the windfall of dollars. Are you catching yours?

-Create value.
Simply put make what they don’t know they NEED. People will buy anything if it solves problems, captures their attention or caters to a whim. The ipad was revolutionary in use size, scope- you name. People use them to fly planes, write novels, see cartoons and even manage small fortune 500 companies. You can just check your email too. But what Apple did here was create something that not only appealed to the masses but had an inherent value in many market places and careers. When you blog, or make cars or take photos at the knicks game if you don’t create something of value you are wasting time.
People don’t buy what is worthless.
People buy vintage not used.
People love innovation.
People hate wasted space.
People hate clutter in purses and backpacks- ipad solves many of these issues.
If you solved but one issue or create even a tiny bit of value you will see success you will have a fan base and a loyal customer base to boot.

-Capitalize on a niche market.
We have more or less covered this folks however I want to be clear.
Apple didn’t stop at computers.
Richard Branson has multiple businesses under one umbrella corporation.
Michael Jackson bought the Beatles rights.
In all three of these examples the victor did one thing he capitalized on a certain avenue or avenues. Branson did it over and over. Heck he still does it! Apple is taking television over sooner than we can expect. And Michael knew the Beatles were almost timeless and used his wealth to double down and added to his paychecks a lifetime of lifetimes in supplemental income. Always
Look for the niche market. What people won’t pay for is a phrasing away from Christmas pandemonium.
See it. Do it.

Fear is Useful

30 Jul

Fear is useful.
(When you know what to fear.)

Remember the Boogeyman? And how he came every night whether you saw him or not? Or Freddy Kruger and Jason? These guys scared the bejesus out of me when I was real young, and many of you too I bet.
See fear is a natural occurrence. We need it. Some people say they are fearless I say that’s foolish. Fear can ruin your life or build your drive to succeed and its simply a matter of whether you master it or not.

-What is fear?
Fear is a response to external and or internal factors and actions. Most of us are afraid of pain. And pain is simply your body warning you to certain permutations and facts. As a recipient of a few broken bones and surgeries I know first hand that at times fear can paralyze you. However if you seek the calm point in you it is an ally. Fear is basically your response to things. Nothing else. However fear can cripple and incapacitate or build and renew.

-Know what to fear.
So we touched on fear being useful. Fear is useful, it is the beginning of wisdom says the Bible in the book of Proverbs and there is truth to that. Being afraid to die can give you a certain center that will enable you to not make ignorant choices. However you have to know what to fear. Fearing red ants is pointless. Fearing success is as well but many people are too afraid to take the steps that lead to pure, unbridled success. If you are afraid of meeting new people, building connections, and or closing sales- don’t quit your day job. Being your own boss comes with a huge magnanimous serving of failure. However when you fear failure you don’t SUCCEED. The key here is to fear not reaching your potential.
You should fear not rising to your potential. You should fear not giving back because you didn’t meet your level. We all have the ability to rise. And while we won’t all be olympic medals we are all entitled to and I dare say required to be our best.
What do you fear?
Why do you fear it?
Conquer your basic fears and move forward.
Can you imagine still being afraid of the dark? You’d get nowhere.
Afraid of the dentist?- I bet you go though because the potential downside is horrendous. And if you avoid the dentist now he will see you more later- CONQUER!

-Harness the power of fear.
In life I’ve been scared of roller coasters, heights, girls, and success. And I had to harness that fear to beat these things that scared me. For rollercoasters I simply let my brother in law shame me until we got on every ride in the park! And after I yelled like a little girl I learned that I actually liked rollercoasters. For heights I beat that by accident. I had to climb a rope ladder repaeatedly when a wild animal almost attacked. While I dislike heights now I won’t lose due to fear. As for girls when we were younger one of my closest friends and I made a deal that we would take turns talking to every pretty girl we saw on our troop home. And it worked! We not only beat the fear but conquered it and realized how easy it was. And for the younger fans and readers- the girls are just as nervous.
When it comes to success I simply force myself to do it. I won’t be in a j-o-b forever. And I make a point to tell people my goals. Not to brag but to hold myself accountable. That way if I say two days it has to be less- otherwise I hear the junk and look inefficient. And I refuse to be less than I am. Do you feel the same?
Conquer People!

Exclusive Interview #2. Spotlighting Ceddy J of www.Duskspot.com

28 Jul

Exclusive Interview #2. Spotlighting Ceddy J of http://www.Duskspot.com
——————–
The second interview in a series highlighting up and coming entrepreneurs and leaders.
Today we interview Ceddy J.

And without further ado:

-Where you from?
Originally From Trenton, NJ and Now Living In Dallas, TX.

-Age?
I’m currently 25 years of age.

-How did you get in the game?
This all sparked from playing many instruments at a young age along with being on the newspaper staff back in high school. After a college professor recommended I take her voice and diction class, she encouraged me to become a radio personality.

-What made you embrace your position?
As far as event promoting, I went to an event for homecoming at my college, which was real fun until some random lames decided they wanted to have a huge brawl. This lead to not only the event ending early, but also lead to the venue never letting Black people have nothing there again. I told myself that night I was going to become a promoter and have events that weed out fighters. After I threw a “Project X” type of party I was involved with some of the premier events in the Dallas area. After a while, I took the experience I have as a promoter, radio personality, and musician to fuse myself into the DJ that I am today.

-What keeps you in your position?
I’m not afraid to take risks along with not allowing rejection to get in the way of I’m passionate about.

-What are your secrets to success?
I always study trends of the industry, understanding every position so that I can convey exactly what I want done the way I want it.

-What don’t you like in the game?
There are always a lot of sharks who say “it takes money to make money”, but half of them are the exact people always looking for handouts. PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH!

-What do you like in the game?
The Underground Aspects Of The Industry set the tone for the majors. Like for instance, internet radio shows like mine focused on the upcoming leaders in the entertainment industry. This lead to major radio stations playing more local music and having weekly shows with local artists.

-What would you change in the game?
Stop letting budgets dictate talent. If an artist is GREAT, let’s find them some investments so that we have quality.

-If I gave you a milli what or whom would
you invest in?
With a milli, I’m investing in starting foundation to help small businesses get their feet off the ground through strong planning and executing.

-What sets you apart from the game?
I understand the basics of the game and then play by my rules and feed off of suggestions to keep myself well-rounded.

-What are your thoughts on 360 deals?
360 are worth it depending on how much a label is willing to invest into its artist, especially when it comes to marketing.

-What made you love hip hop?
My appreciation for multiple genres helped me love hip hop. Its a genre of music that has sparked a huge culture that is always evolving over time.

-Who is your fav rapper/lyricist?
Phonte because this dude is the full package that the industry has been blessed with. He always delivers when he says he has another great project coming out.

-Best person to ever play your position?
Ricky Smiley, because a personality he is not afraid to be himself show after show.

-Best rapper alive?
If we want to talk revenue and talent, hands down Jay-Z.

-Advice for my readers?
I have a coinphrase I say at the end of every show, which is “Where There’s A J, Or A U(You) There’s A Way!” I live by this everyday and encourage my listeners to always go after what they want the best way they can with as many ways possible.

-Your definition of success?
Success is being able to realize that you set the tone through how confident and knowledgeable you are in your position.

-Any projects you’d like to promo?
My social network for upcoming stars in music and modeling called DuskSpot.com which is dedicated to playing an direct role in its members’ careers. I also would like to promote my partner in crime, DJ P Bucc, because without his continued support and direct involvement with all of my projects I would almost give up.

SPEND your way to SUCCESS. (no, seriously)

30 Jun

SPEND your way to SUCCESS.

I know, I know. Suze Orman will lynch me and Robert Kiyosaki will probably argue this though I bet he concurs. Sorry though folks. Tony only had a poor dad. And I’ve seen how spending helps growth and success levels.

-Private school.
In my youth my parents wanted me and my sister in private schools. And no we weren’t snobs or high falootin’ either. What we were (are) was well educated. My sister could read proficiently at age four. And I was a poor reader until after the first grade but after that I gained acceptance to a gifted program. I say this not to brag but to speak on the efforts others put into us. At middle school age we both began private school educations having tested highly and procuring funding through scholarships and what have you. However there was a balance to be paid and my parents met the need and met it well. We were never threatened with removal et al due to lack of funding. You see my parents knew that spending their last pennies to secure a solid education for their children was a way to spend it all and win back richly. Many people will argue the merit of charter schools, advanced programs and what have you- but I know that we benefited vastly from a private school environment and education. From this I learned that what is worth having is worth paying for. Things gotten at too low a price aren’t worth much. Now Barter Kings will disagree and many thrifty buyers as well. Heck I love a good sale! However something require cash.
The other part to this lesson is that I will spend money on training and courses to further my knowledge. I love to buy books that teach me new and exciting materials in my quest for wealth and personal growth. I also have paid for courses and even a simple conversation with a mentor. The right knowledge from the right mouth can be the difference between success and failure. Buy what you need people. We don’t buy cheap shoes right? We don’t buy cheap toilet paper right? How much more important then are the dollars we spend to feed our minds and cleanse our souls? Lead by learning people.

-Buckminster gave it all away.
Buckminster Fuller gave all his money away. Every month he had a zero at the end and never wanted or lacked for the rest of his days. Now this is a philanthropic form but the method is the same none the less. He spent to help and gave to others without ceasing. This strategy kept the Infinite Power on his side and put his karma over the top. You see I’ve noticed a trend- when you give you get. Even in the Bible the only time God tells you to test him is with tithing. No concept besides giving can bear such fruit and release such power.
This form of spending is guaranteed to bless you.

-Spending can be your drive.
I noticed an odd trend after I got married. I started to want more my wife and I. I worked two jobs while taking college classes- my day job with kids and afterwards tutoring through a separate program. I also did extra hours escorting at risk youth from my job to and from school. Over time our debts shrank and we were able to replace an old car with a new one. Every year for five years I met the pay upgrades and procured summer work when I didn’t get it from my job. I found ways to buy everything on sale. By having a hunger for more we literally rose to a higher
standard of living. I will say though that this can be perverted and in keeping up with the jones’ you will go broke. So be smart and know the difference between motivation and greed.

Quick recap:
-Lead by learning.
-Some things, like education (and toilet paper) are worth the money. So don’t cut corners.
-Give until you can’t. And you will always get.
-Wanting more can fuel your abilities.

BURN BRIDGES, MOVE FASTER.

27 Jun

Burn Bridges, move faster.

So many people will tell you never burn your bridges. Or be careful which bridges you burn. And its sound advice.
WRONG.
Burn Bridges GO Faster.

I know. ‘Tony went off the deep end.’
‘Tony thinks he’s John Nash
(A Beautiful mind).
‘This jerk is crazy!’
And you are welcome to your opinions. I actually want them. You see I subscribe to the school of forward motion. Life is not to be spent in the rear view mirror.

-When you don’t focus on your future you live in your past.
Are you living in your past? Do you relish the days of your D1 sports games? You miss them and I say why? You were a champ. And if you’re not get over it. I’m not being a jerk- hear me out. You were a champ and if you feel you’re not one now you are wrong. If you feel simply off the path- let’s get you back. Everyone is a winner. But the winners actions separate him from the losers. You feel you’re not doing it right than focus on a goal. A future scenario. This is how you get on your path to greatness. You were meant to be great so why aren’t you doing it? You are and not getting it? So examine your habits, goals, and company you keep. My regular readers see where I’m going with this. Your past is worthless except on your resume. Only use the past as a chain of small successes to build your momentum. Everything else is wasting time and emotions. Put those energies and efforts into building the future.

-No regrets.
You made mistakes. Me too. Life is going to deal you crappy hands repeatedly. In fact most people who go to the World Series of Poker lose. It happens. The winners come back. They ante up and win their spot at the table or pay the ten grand and start with the regular joes all over. And some winners are at that table for their prior actions. Ever come in second? Yup me too. And in that moment you were the first loser. However, the winner is the guy who gets up to train the day after the olympics. The no regrets mentality requires you have none. You put them in a box, the box in a safe, safe on a boat, and sink the boat in the baltic. I’m serious. Regrets will drown you. So drown them first.

-Forward motion.
That’s it. You get going and move on. You don’t think. Now wait.
I’m not endorsing ignorance.
I’m endorsing trusting your intuition.
I’m endorsing building your skill sets and your confidence to the point your mentor brings you on stage at events.
In your life, forget your career, you either do it or you don’t. And the easy way to do it:
IS TO DO IT.
The book eat that frog means just that. You take the hardest task and do it. And I say the hardest task is to Simply DO. Don’t think. Don’t waste time. If you have become goal orientated. If you have a plan, a mentor, and a business you believe in. Just DO IT. Sorry Nike, but you said it best. I’m just re-endorsing your brand so can I get a check? A small one?
All jokes aside people, if you don’t simply make it work it won’t. You can get the hottest product, the newest training, the hottest sidekick- its all worthless without proper execution. And the only proper execution is Execution itself. Get it done.

LEARN AND PROGRESS. That is all I can suggest. So meet me there. Get it done. And let’s celebrate success together people.

What’s YOUR Conversion Rate?

18 Jun

What’s your Conversion rate?

So today I’m going to cover a simple topic that many people overlook: conversation rates.
Let’s back up though. John doe the 3rd has joined the billion dollar mlm and is excited. They not only have 200 millionaires but they are publicly traded. And to really sweeten the pot they offer a dividend to stock holders! He sees a clear path. And he is excited and focused.
He made his goal list.
He meditates every morning.
He has made a warm market list but not badgered them.
So my regular readers see the pattern developing I bet… Wink. Wink.
So John the 3rd is on the right path. And he recently signed 3, you three new partners in the third week since he signed on. Now that he has activated and put a partner under a partner (important step because it shows your partners that you are serious in getting them successful as well) he is soaring high. Next week nothing.
Week after. Nothing.
Next month the same.
So now John is feeling frustrated. A normal response we all feel when building progressively toward any goal.

John was even prudent enough to start a blog to lure passively and show his progression and a path others could relate to.
However John the 3rd spent all his time trying to hook his “fish”. And he forgot the true art isn’t just in reeling it in but in tracking his results. Let me break it down. We all sign some and lose some. Nature of the beast I call it. And as my mentor @Rayhigdon aka Ray Higdon reminded me its always a numbers game. So with that in mind we habe to analyze the numbers and factuals that lead us to each sale, new partner, recruit, or simple attendee.
What did you say?
who did you approach?
What didn’t you say?
Did your blog really sign them or did your spoken words?
Did being a master inviter seal the deal?
Are you more effective currently by getting them to your highest upline?
When you speak do they listen?
Are the sizzle calls your best feature?
Is your product viable?
Do you sell product or the dream?
Do you know the difference?

You see there is a lot that goes into building your business. You have to know your product- ALWAYS. You can’t sell what you don’t know. Be it the product or company- LEARN IT ALL.

You must know your weaknesses. Everyone focuses on strengths. I beg to differ. Know what you CAN’T DO so you don’t waste time. This eliminates focus killers. Then when you are of a singular focus you will win.

If you invite better than close- DO THAT. We can’t all be the top of the food chain. Yet if you can be second to none are you not better? And yes I don’t like second place- it is the first loser. But when you start from that position you can watch a winner- and LEARN what YOU need to do.

All of that aside though- if you focus on the why’s. You will learn. Study what is effective. In a venture I’ve embraced only but six months ago I learned that what is sold isn’t as important as why. With the data provided me I see what campaigns work and which ones don’t. I’ve learned what to say and what I SHOULDN’T have. You see the raw data will lead to success faster.

Lastly. Your conversion rate will also state your effective rate. With this number you will know if you talk to seven people and only sign one, how many it takes to get to ten- give up? The number is a minimum of 70. If you have a blog post that gets three out of five- that blog has a sixty percent, yes 60% success rate. So if the one with a two percent, aka 2% rate was your favorite- you now KNOW what isn’t working.
Remember in business we focus on the results ot we work for the boss.

Have you made your choice?
Will you do the research?
Are you committed to living the dream?
If so let’s compare notes.

“Its never possible until you get it done.”

8 Quick steps to success in your Venture.

22 May

8 Quick steps to success in your Venture.

So a lot of people I come across day to day are in direct marketing or similar ventures. Some of you also sell life insurance or own small businesses such as pastries for parties or car washes on the go.
And everyone is looking to increase sales, and convert your maybes to yes’ or to business partners.
Well below I’ve listed 8 simple steps to get you there.

-Motivate.
If you don’t motivate your team they won’t get anywhere. Sales don’t get closed, members aren’t recruited, and conversions don’t convert. All people need something to motivate them and monet works but add something in to spice it up. A contest, a goal, anything. And lastly- you have to motivate yourself. If you are not motivated your team won’t be.

-Lead by example.
This is a pet peeve of mine. If you don’t do it they won’t. I’ve had a few bosses that required but didn’t. And for my coworkers and I this was quite horrendous. It was a self defeating action on the bosses part. Workers, partners, trainees-Everyone wants to follow the leader. Everyone needs the example you set to show the way and to get them fired up. When you lead by example you are a leader.

-Inspire.
Inspire your team. They should want to come to meetings and leave fired up to return. When you walk in the room you should blaze a path that sets everyone alight and makes them want a part of you. A piece of your mojo if you will.
Find what inspires you, perhaps its your WHY- and focus on it.

-Mentor.
Simply put teach. Find people who need you. people who want to succeed and simply need a push. Make a list of these people and help them systematically. A mentor doesn’t tell you what to do. They show you. And more importantly: THEY HOLD YOU ACCOUNTABLE. (More on accountability in a later post)

-Coach.
Get them there. A coach is a leader and a coax-er. A coach squeezes that last but out of a team member and then helps them find more. Coaches get you past the finish line. A coach gets his or her team to the next goal. And the next one. Remember positivity- trumps anger, yelling, and put downs.

-Teamwork.
Your team includes you. All members work all members gain. Whether you are the leader, the boss, the gofer, or any member- you have to put the work in. Everyone has to give equally. Participate to your fullest. And as Lou Ferigno would say: ‘Give a hundred and ten percent. Every time. All the time.’

-Vision.
Do you have a vision?
Does you team have a collective one that encompasses all their unique goals needs and visions?
If so great. Awesome. Simply say it aloud at every meeting or group outing at least twice: at the opening and closing.
Don’t have a Vision?
Get out the white board and flow chart the groups perceptions of what a vision is first. After that repeat the flow chart process to obtain the actual Vision for the group.
Your group Vision should be dynamic, successful, and attainable.
A Vision is a form of a Goal and goals are the foundation of success.

And the last and final step:
WIN
