Beat Your Fear Of Rejection

23 Jan

In 2013 rejection should be a thing of the past.  If you are in sales, direct marketing, or even just want to get ahead- you need to conquer the fear of rejection.

A Few Awesome Rejection Quotes

“I take rejection as someone blowing a bugle in my ear to wake me up and get going, rather than retreat.” – Sylvester Stallone

“I was told to avoid the business all together because of the rejection. People would say to me, ‘Don’t you want to have a normal job and a normal family?’ I guess that would be good advice for some people, but I wanted to act.” – Jennifer Aniston

“A rejection is nothing more than a necessary step in the pursuit of success.” – Bo Bennett

“You have people come into your life shockingly and surprisingly. You have losses that you never thought you’d experience. You have rejection and you have learn how to deal with that and how to get up the next day and go on with it. “ – Taylor Swift

The trick to beating Rejection-  Active offense.

In other words you have to manage fear of rejection by fighting it head on.  Every leader in every industry has fear.

No one wants to be rejected.  I hate rejection.  However you can’t close a recruit or a sale if your fear dominates.  Just run with it folks.

Secret: fight fear by using it.  Make it work for you.

4 Elements to Greatness

4 Elements to Greatness

It’s 2013, everyone is making goals and becoming a new person. And for many its the same goals as last year. Tenacity is good no question- but its time to skew focus.

There are 4 key ingredients to true greatness and for 2013 I want us all to embrace them even before setting a goal. Set your goals? No prob- just take this is first.

Belief
Nothing great is done without belief. If you don’t believe in your cause or goal you have no power. You will not move forward. You may not even tread water. When you aren’t confident- LIE. Even to yourself. Belief comes from within and from previous successes. See what you have done and believe you Will do more.
Belief in U.
If you don’t believe you can do it- you can’t. when you do it know it is all you. No one helps you. When I’m in the gym I have to lift off the weight. I work by the motto that if you can’t take it off the rack you don’t deserve to lift it. Right there I force my belief to grow. I literally put my mind into the muscle and shape my results thru my belief. Do you see how simple that is? How we can all do it. I bench press into the 300s. I get help. But I do it. No one lifts, they just make sure I don’t die. Get there.

Consistency
Without consistency you can’t do anything. You are recruiting to build your team?
You have to work the system everyday.
You blog? blog daily.. There is no blog if you don’t blog a lot. Blog often. And keep blogging. That may not have been said eloquently but you get the point. You have to work at what you do religiously.
Michael Jordan worked at being great. He was consistent with his gym time. He practiced. And practiced. And practiced. You have to work at it over and over. There are no breaks until you reach the mountain top.
I love the quote ‘I’ll sleep when I’m dead,’ as it shows the level of dedication needed.

Discipline
To get to the top you have to be great. And the way to greatness lies in discipline. What you do daily is what you become. Let’s look at the meriam webster definition:
Definition of DISCIPLINE
1: punishment.
2: instruction.
3: a field of study.
4: training that corrects, molds, or perfects the mental faculties or moral character.
5a : control gained by enforcing obedience or order.
5b : orderly or prescribed conduct or pattern of behavior.
c : self-control.
6: a rule or system of rules governing conduct or activity.
Discipline is almost in its simplest form taking the other three elements and combining them simultaneously.
Loving what you do, and doing it consistently is discipline. Belief that you can and will do it is derived from discipline. When you make it your mission to live disciplined you will see greatness invariably.

Loving what you do
You’re wasting your time if your heart isn’t there. You have to love what you do. It has to be synonymous with you. I have a day job. Love it too folks. I have a business. Love that too. However when I stumbled onto Ray Higdon and how I could blog to build an empire I was astounded. And as he said, if he could do it so could anyone. And once I started this blog it was over. I’ve come to love the blogging and guest editorials I’ve been blessed to write. It has been an honor. You see writing was my first love. I’ve written stories, raps, songs, poetry, editorials, and now blogs. But my true love was always present- The Writing.
When you love what you do you already feel successful. However this feeling will grow and will lead to external success if not worldwide success.
See you at the top.

Stars Can’t Shine Without Darkness

31 Dec

Stars Can’t Shine Without Darkness

Simple and to the point. Not much for the last post of the year because I won’t belabor it. Stars can’t shine without darkness. Opposites make things work. My wife is my opposite in myriad ways. She’s math I’m english. She’s quiet I’m loud. But its a balance. But I wouldn’t have been blessed with her if I hadn’t gone through darkness.

Bad times make great people.
I was a jerk. And I was running a muck. And my train went off the track in early 2006. And I had to confront the darkness that I was in and the darkness I was in as I sat there in pain and anger. After I confronted the immediate situation I confronted my demons. And over six months transformed my mind and body. I put together my first book, shared my poetry in front of hundreds of people and moved forward in my life.
I was happy. I was honest with myself. Then I got my first car, a better position at work, and I went back to school. After that I made a commitment to my wife and we were married. All in about 9 months. My dark moved me forward. It shined me up- better said it polished me like a stone.
My dad was a jeweler and in his shop I remember the machine with the cream and little objects. What did it do? Made the diamonds shine. And I mean SHINE. I remember he would cut diamonds and etch gold to get it just right. He had to cut to shape to mold to make these rough items value show in such a way that they were unquestionable items of value, beauty, and
desirable by all means.
I remember when I started going to the gym. I was out of shape, husky and insecure with my prowess in the gym. Over time I got better. I took advice, made new friends and became the powerhouse I always wanted to be. Fast forward five years and I was back it after a wrist injury(remember the aforementioned darkness?). This time I got bigger and better. It was great. The lesson here folks is that you have to have a need, a want, and or a dark point from where you grow to be better than you are. From my darkness I’ve risen to have a level of comfort, peace of mind and self forgiveness I not only benefited from, but needed.
You gotta have bad times to know what good times are and where you are going.

You must help stars shine
You owe it the world and yourself to be the best you can. And from there to aid others in being their best. We are all worthy of greatness and called to it. When you don’t believe this and then act on it we all lose. At night we see all the stars not one. In unison they provide astounding views and in chorus they paint the night sky visually stunning. Ever been to Vermont? When you see the night spy without anything hindering it- it is truly majestic. And this occurs when we all work together.
Do you have a business?
Are you trying to recruit?
Build a team?
Worry about helping the people first. When you care for people, when you solve problems- you reap rewards. You change lives. Be helpful, Be successful.
HAPPY NEW YEARS FOLKS.

A Paycheck is Never Enough

30 Dec

A Paycheck is Never Enough

Money doesn’t fix your problems.
Money isn’t an answer, its merely a means to trading up toward your goals and dreams being realized. These seem like mixed concepts but bear with me.

A paycheck is not winning.
If you work for money you are losing. Hardcore. Unless you are in the top, let’s say 10% of the income bracket in our fine country you are precariously close to failure. If you are in the bottom 40% you may be already in what I call ‘failure to launch.’
It works like this: when you work for money you are losing. A large majority of folks on this continent are working for peanuts. I’m not here to argue for higher wages. What I am arguing for is that you expect more for your efforts. That doesn’t mean you storm corporate. It means you get to a higher plain. Demand more of yourself. I work hard at my day job. Real hard. And I play by the rules and do as I’m told. And in doing so I’ve earned trust and a little latitude. I’ve also been given more income. Great perk right lol. However I know this job can never be my everything. I want more. I need it. So I’ve had my own business in one shape or form since 2007. I’ve picked up new skills, joined mlm’s, worked with kids through NCLB, sold life insurance and become a licensed bouncer. All of these ventures except one made me money. Some still do actually. Also in doing my job I’ve learned great skills and been privy to great training that has made bouncing/security easier and made my resume for that line of work vastly grander.
Now all of that comes from the mindset that a paycheck is never enough.
We can’t simply work for money day in and day out and then die. Simple. Factual.
What’s your story?
What’s your motive?
Inspire people. Inspire yourself.
For you not to be more than a paycheck player is selfish. Expect more.
Live for more. Do more. Make the dollars you make work for you. Make your free time expansion time.
You need more than a paycheck.
You are more than a job.
Be everything you were made to be. Go beyond the money. Live the dream that is you-specific. Its that simple. Okay, you say Tony you jerk life isn’t that simple.
Fine you win. Enjoy that defeat.
Wow. Cuts deep right?
Its a mindset. Let yours be that there is a WAY- and You will Find it.
When you live and work for more than a paycheck you will be successful. You will be happy. Love your job? Already happy?
Fine. No problem.
One question- couldn’t you be more even in that thing you love?
I’ve found that the harder I work and apply myself at work and at my office- the greater success I’ve had. The more people I’ve helped. And the more abundance I’ve found. Aka my paycheck isn’t everything, and doesn’t have to be.

The Power of the Mind

25 Dec

The power of the Mind

For this wondrous Christmas Day I wanted to be brief and share a few things that are on my mind.

Many of us are blessed in ways we cannot fathom. Or we simply forget that we are blessed. As such we should all make a Gratitude List.
A Gratitude List is simply a way to remind one’s self of all the things to be thankful for. If you are reading my blog you have alist- trust me. Start with the big things. The Family who loves you, the home you own/rent. Your Car and the great toys in your home. If you own a business be thankful for it regardless of its quarterly successes and failures. Your Friends health is a biggie as well. And don’t forget your JOB- especially if you enjoy it. I also added my silver coin collection as I take great pleasure and pride in it- and it adds to my wealth. 😉
My list of small things is crucial too:
My cats,
My blackberry,
My book collection,
My mentors.
The gym.
I could go on and on but that isn’t the point. The point is simply that when we are grateful we are happy. And when we are happy and appreciate the fullness of the blessings in our lives more are there for the taking.
The mind will attract what you put out.
Know the guy or gal who always complains and nothing goes right for? Sorry to say but they bring this madness and unmitigated loss upon themselves.
So remember that in this season of giving and cheer, be thankful, be kind, be happy.
And as you do so you attract the same.
Success is in the mind.
Happiness is in the heart.

Winning Is A Habit, So Is Losing

23 Dec

Winning Is A Habit, So Is Losing.

It’s that simple. Not easy, but simple.
Everything in life requires work. Success is not a gift it is a habit.

The secret to your success is found in your daily habits.
What you do daily is exactly what you will be. Michael Jordan wasn’t a phenom from birth. He practiced, then practiced some more, and then worked at it more after the game. Derek Jeter came out of the Yankees farm system to rise to the title of captain. His love of the game and dedication ot constant improvement made him a leader amongst men. Clearly there is a correlation between actions and success.

What You Do You Become.
In life you are your actions. People who eat too much are obese. People who skip school don’t graduate. The guy who boozed it up, he still boozes. Enough of failure- Wayne Gretzky was relentless he became Hockey’s greatest by sheer action. He played the game. He took advice. He did it all. Ted Williams has one of the top batting averages in baseball. Why? He worked at it. He questioned pitchers to see what they did and how they saw the game. He got into the mind of his opponent. He read up. He practiced. He worked his butt off. Are you doing the same?

Who you Associate With You ARE.
I’m sorry for the harsh words to come- but if you roll with losers you are a loser quite literally. Your best friend smokes weed in his pops basement and talks about what he will do one day, rather than doing something- he’s losing. Your roommate works at Arby’s and thinks he will run the franchise- but he is late most shifts and the customers constantly complain about his lack of effort, yup he is the winner-NOT!
We can’t be more than what we aim to be. Ever see the Olympics? The best have to be vetted to be with the best. And from there the hard work only increases. Do you think that would work if they let slackers in?
Is your country inclined to win multiple Gold medals if just anyone can get on the team? Sorry it doesn’t work that way. Excellence breeds excellence. And excellence feeds off excellence. Indeed if you are even competing against losers I’d say you have lost already.
Back to Ted Williams. He did a variation on this. Ted let the reports who chased him fuel him. He fed their hatred and this became a tool to make him better. Even in using his adversaries he sought those who could challenge him. He didn’t focus on the nobodies. He didn’t deal with the guys who weren’t there every game- why? They weren’t serious. The writer who focuses on a topic is at every game, every event.
Life isn’t a past time and your passion shouldn’t be either.

You have to decide Simply whether you will Be a Winner or a Loser.

BE ROB DYRDEK

27 Nov

BE ROB DYRDEK

Today I’m going to put aside my normal spiel for a few hours and discuss a pretty cool guy. Rob Dyrdek is a renowned skate boarder and pioneer. He is also one heck of a branding machine and entrepreneur. From an early age he made deals for percentages of the companies who sponsored him as opposed to taking a fee. That’s just a savvy individual. Let’s break down some more Rob.
Rob Dyrdek Focus.
Rob is a focused individual. From the moment he knew what he wanted, what he loved- he made it happen. He’s been vastly successful I’d argue because he only travels one avenue. He may have shoes, a show, clothing and various other entities that feed his income- but they all revolve around skating. Being focused to this degree gives him a simple route. I’d even argue this level of simplicity boarders on eloquence.
Maybe that’s a stretch. I don’t care. I see it clearly. When you have an almost utterly ruthless pursuit of what you love and couple that with what you want you become a dominant force. There is nothing that is accomplished that focus doesn’t obtain for you. When you study for a test you are focusing. When you commit that same focus to your own business you win.
Indeed you will be successful in anything you focus on so be careful what your focus is on. Many people focus on failure. They focus on what went wrong not where they are going. Focus. Focus. Focus.

Rob Dyrdek Mindset.
Rob has a mindset that is simply victorious. He makes dreams reality. He doesn’t shift his reality to make a half arsed dream. He makes a decision- finite. From there he publicly makes it know and refuses to fall behind. Ever see Fantasy Factory. He makes public bets that are quite ostentatious.
Why you say? It essentially forces his hand. And the power gained in being the force that motivates and drives you is invaluable. Let your mindset dictate your existence. If you believe you will be victorious so you shall.

Rob Dyrdek Belief.
Rob believes he can do anything. He has swam with sharks, jumped from planes, flipped cars and built an empire. He even has a slogan: Make Your Own Luck. It’s simple and speaks to his belief system. Rob doesn’t say no, he finds yes’s. This is key. Rob has made his own luck. Literally. What will you make?

Rob Dyrdek Team.
Rob is also a slick fox in that he surrounds himself with winners. A diverse group of winners at that. The team will make the dream come true in many cases.
Don’t associate with people who don’t believe in you. Don’t work with those don’t or won’t share your vision. Work with those who bring something to the table. Success is that much sweeter when we all contribute.
Rob has family and friends. He also has strangers who have become both. Those who go above and beyond deserve more than respect, more than loyalty. They deserve dividends. And when you look at the net worth of those surrounding Rob- its obvious they are all #winning.

Success IS Just a Finished Dream

26 Nov

Success IS Just a Finished Dream.

Not exactly my usual post but this display is inspiring two fold.

First someone dreamed of putting the time in to be this good at their craft. I don’t care who you are- practice makes perfect. Ever heard someone say nothing succeeds like excess? Lol I thought not. Yet look at that concept. Success may be found in excess. When you work at something with fervor you achieve it faster.
If your efforts are excessive and effusive you will see progress. Do you think Rafael or Michaelangelo settled for mediocre?
Do Superbowl teams want that ring a little or is a haunting vision that excites and stimulates? I’d say its the latter and as such its the guy who puts in his all and then some that comes out on top.

Put the time in. Pay your dues. Hone your craft and stretch your talents. To the victor go the spoils so why not spend TOO much time as opposed to just enough.
Ask Jordan, ask Jeter, ask Jobs- to pursue excellence is to pursue it zealously.

Second Someone else put it the hours to be able to pay for something of this caliber.
So this second component isn’t about being the nest or creating the best. Its about being the guy who can afford the best. This requires you work your abilities to the bone. Be the best.
Beat the best.
The man who has big wants/needs has a greater potential. How can one rule the world if a duplex satiated all desires?
You can’t, you won’t. To get the best you have to earn the best. Warren Buffet may not have the fanciest baubles but he does have the greatest bank account (give or take). And that says a lot. If you want the best meals, the best cars or the best service- be the best. It is far easier to acquire from a prime position as opposed to being at the bottom.

Simply make a choice. Be the best or expect less.
And remember that success is nothing more than a finished dream.

Compete your visions. Live your dreams.
