PATIENT WAIT TIME

PATIENT WAIT TIME

So I’m at the hospital with the wife waiting for the Specialist- Again.
It seems like no matter what doctor I see, in what borough, I wait an hour.
Now I don’t know about my readers perspective but for me Time IS Money. Literally in this case as to see this one specialist we have to drive in and pay for parking in a private, high fallutin’ lot. And its quite expensive.
What gets my goat is that we were early. And to top it off this happens here every time regardless of how many patients are waiting.
And what’s worse is that some doctors have the audacity to bitch and moan when we are even a little late.
Where’s the empathy?
Where’s the concern?
Hell, where’s the plain old common human decency? Guess it aint too common anymore.

When did we not become customers/clients that have value?
Since when can doctors string us along and leave us in various waiting and screening rooms for myriad hours.
I could be in the gym.
I could be in the movies with my wife.
I could be closing clients or writing editorials.
Bottom line is that in my business if I treated people like the disposable paper my wife is sitting on now I’d be broke.
I’d be bankrupt at denny’s getting plates off tables if I was lucky.

When did we become disposable commodities?

When did we as Americans decide to accept this?
My dentist tried this and I gave them heck.
He knows I don’t have time to waste.
Then again he also knows I’m an avid bodybuilder and I’m double his size and that I work within the security world (not the flashlight type either).
However I think my choice of calm cool displeasure, plainly stated with concise terms made the point all on their own.

Now we all know the name of the game is profits but this is ridiculous.
It is downright disgusting.
That people with legit illnesses, that have appointments to see specialists are made to wait in perpetuity.
If this was an emergency room, hey we all know the odds.
However when I see a specialist he shouldn’t be overbooked.
Heck when I get my teeth cleaned I shouldn’t wait.
The questions begging to be asked are quite simply-
*Do the doctors place such little value on the patients?
*Are office managers and secretaries that obtuse?
*Are they instructed to bang us out like I did when hanging sheetrock?
Shoot, I got paid by the hour not the sheet it isn’t even comparable. My old boss got paid by the sheet. And he hustled. And he made an honest living doing great quality work.

In a world where medicating the populace seems to be the go-to strategy,
have we lost the desire for quality patient care at every encounter?

Well I had time to pen this and I’m still waiting. Expect my parking bill to be over $40 for a 15 minute conversation as this is a follow up to a follow up and we need about 3 questions answered.
But I guess our needs and concerns are trivial inconsequential matters.

-Follow up. Doctor came in about 12 minutes ago and told us he didn’t know we were here. Not that we were here for him, but that we were here in general. Isn’t that sweet?

Bet they get the billing right.

Oh, and we’re still waiting…

499 Words (AKA 500 Words To Get Google Approval OF Your Your Blog?)

19 Feb

Google likes 500 Words.
Google weights your blog posts greater when they are 500 or more words.
Google likes 2 pages times new roman double spaced.
Okay maybe the last one is bullsh*t but you see I remember writing those small papers and they were always 2 pages times new roman double spaced.
No Courier New font, no size 13 font et al.
Laugh if you will but college was cagey fun.
And those little papers that I hated became a chore after I realized it was harder to cap myself at 500 and not just let my pen flourish, well keyboard actually.
But over time it was true. I was always a writer, but college papers and procrastination made me a great writer.
And I can hear the people calling me names. And it may be true if you don’t see what I mean.
My point is that I made myself the best writer I could be. It doesn’t mean I’m amongst the elite. Quite the opposite.

Now onto Google.
Google likes blog posts of a certain length.
500+ words sets a trend. It makes things better so they say. It adds validity. Credibility. Shows your serious perhaps.
And to an extent I can agree.
Anyone can type 50 words. Heck twitter is 100 plus characters and people go nuts.
Add a hash tag (#) and you may be the trending top of the week (aka #tt).
Is length really an indicator of greatness though?
Does length equal greatness?
Maybe in an Extenze commercial. But in the writers world I’d wager it doesn’t. And if you’ve seen some of the books that sell to the high heavens on Amazon’s Kindle you know that a 100 page book, sometimes less, can sell a few hundred thousand copies with ease.
Victory, sales, whatever you want to call it, whatever you need- won’t always be found in meeting Google’s quota.

Quality.
Quality isn’t found only in specific quantities or large sets of words. Not that 500 is a lot of words per say, but you get the point. Many soliloquies are not long. Haiku’s- well, you get the point. Quality is found in many forms and so it goes with blogging.
Not every blog post need be long.
Lately I’ve used infographics on two of my blogs as I see the pure potential and potency in letting images speak for themselves.
I’ve also used a new format I dubbed the “quick tip”. I focus my mind and thoughts into a concise post or rant and simply post away. Not everyone wants to read my magnum opus (did I say that right?).
I’ve had great success with this format too.
I like it, they like it.
My blog wins, my readers win, Nice.

DO YOU FEAR SUCCESS?

6 Feb

DO YOU FEAR SUCCESS?

DO YOU FEAR SUCCESS?Simple question. Harder to answer. You see most guys I know are running from fear so hard they can’t see what else is going on. They put on the brave front, the flashy bravado- and move through life hiding from their own shadows. Our inner fears have a way of being massively destructive. When we let those fears dictate our lives we become nothing more than old children. Is that what you want out of your life?Is that what you are really looking to accomplish?See, the way I see it fear is a good thing when it means we are being cautious. The Bible says fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Good words. Smart concept.however fear also cripples. And I won’t be a cripple (no offense to any specific party). Now let’s delve into the real fear that cripples men- fear of success. You see its much easier to be nobody.Mediocrity is quite comfortable.I’ve worked with a lot of people who like being bottom feeders. And hey we will always need a few. I’m not callous, I just see that some people are comfy where they land. But to me a majority of men know they are called to be great. To lead, to serve. That aint to easy or fun now is it though?Well folks I’m calling you out-Why not be successful? When you fear success you fear living.Let me say that again:When you fear success you fear living. Its as simple as that.Success scares most people. Living for the gold, chasing the win- its perilous. Not because you might lose, we all lose from time to time. Its the winning that scares us and its two fold.-One what will it be like, how will you handle it?Fear of what lies beyond the gold medal, or beating Bobby Fischer destroys men. When you live day in and day out striving toward a goal and after myriad tries it is achieved many feel they won’t know what to do next. Ever heard about the guy who retires and dies the next day? Anxiety. Fear come to life. He did it and now doesn’t know what do. And it broke him.-Two what will yo do next. You see when you keep putting off for tomorrow you have something to look forward to. Call it procrastinators masturbation. It works, and millions practice it but in the end you’re only……In both cases completion of a task or success broke the person(s) in question. Why fear success? Success fulfills the master of his destiny. For many success is a lofty goal fraught with adversity. Even when peers prove it is easily obtainable many will shrug it off. Deny its plausibility. The fear is talking though. And it isn’t fear that it can’t be done it’s that it can.Life is crazy. And its perilously short. So why not play it close to the felt? Why not be your best? How? Simple. Chase The Dream. That’s it.Every waking moment chase what you want. Team up with those who have gotten there.Follow the path your gut has chosen.Do what YOU want. Be who you want. When you lay down to sleep focus on what you want and fall asleep with that as your last thought. When you awake- repeat the same goals and dreams.Find affirmations that work.Find people that want to achieve.Life is a team sport so get in the game.Don’t be crippled by a dream, build a kingdom on it’s foundation.

Ruined Branding a.k.a. Every Dollar Ain’t A Good Dollar

5 Feb

Business MOOVS Column – ‘MAKING MOOVS‘ – Written by Tony Loubriel – Winter 2013

Ruined Branding a.k.a. Every Dollar Ain’t A Good Dollar

It’s a new year but for my fellow entrepreneurs it’s the same grind. We work and work, and maybe, just maybe we hang around long enough to be successful. Character, strength and commitment aren’t innate traits. We must cultivate them. That being said I’d like to look at  supreme brands I’ve found flaws with, which if I named and I’d bet they’d lose 20% of their market share.

Designer Bag A Brief History.

I remember being young and my sister who was 5 years older wanted a Designer bag. Not being from money it was obviously out of the question. Certain Designer Names are always synonymous with Quality. They’re known to be not just a designer good but worth the money. As I got older I saw many women spend their money for these quality bags and the complimentary accessories. I even had a designer money clip that was pretty neat. Fast forward to current day and my wife loves Designer Bags. She has the bags, the wallets, etc. I still think their items are snazzy but there is an issue with some of these brands.

Dilution.

Not all, but Some Designer Names have factory outlets. Everyone seems to have them now-a-days. The lowered price, great sales on top of that, and recognizable brands make for some great bargains. I love sales. Saving money while building my business or even just a great deal on Nikes, I’m in. But, there is another side to this issue.

You see Certain Designer Companies got slick. They discovered that they could make a product of similar quality with lower price points, and the fans of the brand would buy it. In fact sales went through the roof! More people could buy Designer items, at a lower price they would buy more items; most likely given statistical analysis. So they made more money through sales but they also made more money as the goods they produced were of a lower “quality.” Not to tarnish anyone’s name or reputation but the outlet goods cost less. Less material or different material yields vast savings.

Now I know everyone is thinking ‘It’s a win win’- but its not.

Over time people will realize that a large percentage of certain Designer goods out are conceivably inferior, at the very least vastly different. So this dilution could ruin the brand. People won’t want different or lower quality. Let’s assume I’m wrong it’s the same quality good, it is no longer exclusive. That my friends was a big part of the appeal. No one wants what everyone has.

How does this affect you and I?

We have to keep our eye on the prize. As an entrepreneur when you sacrifice quality for sales you disappoint your clientele and honestly you’re letting yourself down as well.

I can’t speak for all entrepreneurs but I refuse to be less than excellent. Every product, every article, every blog; I put my all in and make sure it’s a quality product.
Every dollar isn’t a good dollar folks. To make a quick buck but ruin branding is inherently flawed.

Every creation is a reflection of you and your brand. You can offer a lower price point and still churn out quality product- without question.

Only you can decide if it’s better to be diluted and cheap, or valuable and authentic? I’d say the answer is obvious but I’d love to hear from Moov’s readers.
What’s your take? ***

Peace,
T3
