Are You A One Hit Wonder

Are You A One Hit Wonder

Are you a one hit wonder-
That my friends is the question.
I’m sure just like me you guys have checked out the one hit wonder shows on VH1.
You guys know, the ones where they show music artists that made it to the top for about 3 weeks and then went and got a regular old 9-5. That one song, that one moment wasn’t parlayed into a successful career. Instead it became a moment in time so brief as to make them fodder for jokes by the little guy at home working like a slave.
One hit wonders make for great filler on an ipod but that’s about it. In business and in life there is no room for one hit wonders.
Success is a numbers game, and your numbers have to be long term.
Success comes from repeating great habits. And then repeating that. And repeating that. You get the point. Let’s examine some of the fine points.

Can they duplicate your system?
A lot of people are in direct marketing and or mlm based business models. In this economy there may be no better business model to thrive and survive (#thriveorsurvive, hint hint). However no matter how good your business, its compensation plan, or your pitch- if the system isn’t easy to duplicate than you may fail but your recruits by a vast majority will fail for sure. If they can’t see how to do what your doing then they can’t show it to others. If you have one of the aforementioned models learn it, be it. If you have your own business- whether you sell financial services or you teach seminars et al you have to be able to show people your concept and its simplicity. When they see that they will buy, duplicate or both.

Can you duplicate quality?
When you teach one recruit or team member to be a leader and a fiscal success or otherwise you are riding high. Everything was worth it. Your pride and self esteem, through the roof. However if you can’t duplicate that quality repetitively you have already lost. Put the team building aside for a second. If you can’t duplicate quality in your own actions and plans what are you doing? Watch a baseball game? The pitcher has to be able to throw the same pitch over and over with accuracy. The batter. For get about it even harder. A .300 average in baseball is good- and they only hit the ball 3 out of ten times. Look at any championship team and you will see that they have found the framework for success and have duplicated it over and over. Build from success to success and do the same things that got you to the top. For you and your team.

Leadership- You keep giving.
A great leader is effective, caring, charismatic and proactive. The list could go on and on but that’s the key components I’d say and as such you need to know if you lead well. If not any success you have will be fleeting. Leadership gives you the tools and lays the groundwork to get you beyond that one hit.
Kanye West is said to be fanatical about putting together verses for his tracks. And Pusha-T said in an article that Kanye did the same to him. He told him to rework it. Then rework it again. Then rework it some more. And at the end he got greatness out of him. Not good but great. That is effective leading and it is also strong and proactive.
A good leader is also accessible. Be there all time. Its not an up sell to mentor. It can be but that is an option not a necessity.

Be Excellent.
There will always be a place at the table for excellence. A great musician can play anywhere. A one hit wonder only has one song. A superior craftsman will always land contracts whereas the shabby, liar will get contracts for a time then they will be few and far in between. Excellence breeds its own success. Excellence makes you a contender. It puts the new guy on his toes and your contemporaries back to practicing. The true greats transcend time and even death itself. The Beatles, Big Pun, Steve Jobs, Ted Williams, Babe Ruth, VanGogh, Da Vinci, Botocelli- the list goes on a bit longer but you see the point. Excellence in any form exists forever and becomes the antithesis of a one hit wonder.

Parting shot:
Your destiny is not determined by your critics. Rise above the criticism and run your own race.

You wanna be Rich, or Build Wealth

15 Dec

You wanna Be Rich, or Build Wealth?

Its an easy question. However most people don’t ask it of themselves.
Do you want to be rich, or are you building wealth? You see there is a huge difference between wanting and action.
There’s a few ways to get there. Let’s list them and discuss my favorite(s).

Save.
This is a tried and true method. Every financial planner, adviser, Buffet, or Orman will advise it as a foundation building move or the only move you need. It works. No question. Every dollar you take home should have a portion set aside just for this purpose. 20% should be the goal. In real life that’s a high dollar value for most folks. Start with 5%. If you can’t start with 1%. That’s doable for anyone who is reading this blog on a smartphone, laptop, tablet, or work pc. After you see the ease of saving a percent raise it up to 2%. Then 3% and so on and so on. Its an easy way to get yourself into the savings game.
Just remember that these funds are not to be dipped into. Not for beer, not for friends, not for Christmas.

Build a system.
Want wealth? Want to surpass simple riches and be truly, independently wealthy? There is a key concept to do that for you.
Build a System, that’s it. It doesn’t have to be mlm. It can be a franchise or an online presence based on your favorite hobbies. You may start an llc or get on Kickstarter and get some cloud funding for your favorite concepts you’ve been kicking around in your head. In any case your goal is to build a system. Have a plan. A written one. Have a guideline. Know the costs, revenue projections, long term needs and goals. Everything. Then put that all into a system and make it work. Sweat equity will take you the rest of the way for any dream. If you use an mlm model or direct marketing system that’s cool too. They work. They create millionaires daily. However a system must be implemented no matter what you choose. Systems, are akin to practice-they lead to perfection. When you work the system it works. Cliche sounding but eerily factual.

Pay less taxes.
This will make you infinitely wealthy. When you pay less taxes at any income level you are winning. Billionaire Warren Buffet pays less in taxes than I do by about 20%. Pretty sweet right? Oh, you think that’s unfair, you are entitled to that opinion but until the system changes wouldn’t you rather pay less taxes. Assuming you make 40,000 dollars a year and are taxed at 25% you lose 10,000 dollars right there alone. Then your fica, et al(those pesky deductions) takes a chunk too. However if you could lower your taxable income then you would pay less on all of these. One way to do so is to use tax deferred or pre-tax strategies. My employer offers pre-tax deductions for retirement, metrocards for public transportation, and medical expenses. Essentially you are putting aside, or saving (hint hint) beforehand which the government applauds and rewards. If not seek financial counsel. IRA’s, physical wealth, gold and silver will all be viable options to supplement your 40wk et al and possibly reduce your taxes.
Or start a home based business and garner all those tax deductions and itemized breaks Uncle Sam allots for. Remember its not cheating when the government has created a system to account for all these matters. Work with the government not against it. at the very least you will have more coin in your pocket legally and over the long term you will be wealthy and a lesser drain on the economy, government, and your fellow man.

DO.
This is the heart of it all. A good system, a great dream, even a winning team all mean nothing if you don’t DO.
Factual and concise, without effort you attain nothing in life. I don’t care if you hate Bonds and the steroid users (no implication of guilt, just trying to frame my ideas- sorry professional athletes.)- if they still didn’t work beyond their abilities to get to the top they wouldn’t be the best. Being the best means you work. HARDER. Being the best means you work when the other guy sleeps. You practice after you win the gold- Same night. Those who DO get wealthy. They aren’t just rich. Riches are fleeting and not guaranteed. A lot of people strike it rich off the lottery only to be dead broke, heavily in debt, or plain old dead. The wealthy stay wealthy.
A side note- wealth is also fulfilling your dreams. Not just having zeros in your bank account.

Are Fees More Valuable than Feedback?

Are Fees More Valuable than Feedback?

A lot of us want the money. the dollars, the cheese, the dinero. And there is no shame in that. Any businessman who is honest with him or herself knows its true. Even when I help a client expand their reach, the value I create for myself or the commissions I reap are still awesome. When my clients win I win. When my partners gain I gain.
However I want to ask if you, my invaluable readers have a sale or paypal button and a feedback button?
Better yet do you have a Feedback button?

Fees.
We all pay ’em. Rent, licensing, marketing.
And as much as most people loathe them, they want to collect them equally. Funny paradox huh? See, I used to hate my bills- signing checks, sending money orders- ugh! Too much. But I’ve reached a turning point. Paying bills is kind of cool. I’ve made it to a point where my growth can be measured by my self-sustainability we’ll call it. I’m winning and I see it more and more by both the fees I can pay and those I avoid by being an astute consumer. You see I spend less than I make and though I have debt I’m still winning. However I won’t lie I’d love to increase my income. Who wouldn’t right?
And that being said I love commissions and fees. And they are beneficial. However I have something better in mind-

Feedback.
Feedback stinks. You will be insulted. People will spam you. Offers for cheap Cialis and fake Gucci sneakers will probably flood your comments and feedback boxes. Not to cool I know, but imagine what will rock. Praise, form people who recognize your talent and hard work. Thanks and appreciation form people who like what you have to say and the people you actually help. Every time I get a bad comment I’m not fazed. Its funny actually. However when a flaw is pointed out or a grammatical error- Man oh man do I get pumped! It’s a victory. I’m getting free help. Someone took the time to make me better and that rocks. Even the people who point out flaws with an air of condescension are improving my skills. My mistakes only make me better. And everyone who comments on my site are a blessing. Every single thank you, and positive response I get makes me smile all the way down into my heart. When a trainee catches something, an ahha moment for instance- it makes my day. And if you don’t have a way to harness this raw power, to collect this data- you are losing. Sorry. Everyone who is not open to criticism is a failure. And when you don’t let the positivity in its even worse. Positive affirmations trump all negativity. And the best part of all this: It’s all free.

Growth.
Both fees and feedback will deliver growth. The fees will recoup expenses and if large enough will enable you to expand your business and even live better. And that is growth in two different ways. That is winning. Once you put in the work the rest is easy. Feedback however will not only create better growth- but it will increase fees as well. As you become better by listening in and improving you will begin to dominate.
Awesome right. Your mindset and posture will change and improve almost overnight.

We’ve discussed both options and I’d say it is pretty clear what you need to do folks. Be open to growth. Be open to letting your potential rise exponentially. Fees as I said rock but the feedback will truly build your brand and free your mind.

Work for Free to Learn Your Trade

8 Dec

Work for Free to Learn Your Trade

In the midst of this “great recession” many people are looking for new jobs or even part time jobs. However in this day and age many people are turning to collegiate endeavors in the hopes that it will open doors and move mountains.
In this day and age though experience trumps degrees. Paper is pointless in many fields. It is proving equally difficult to pay for these bundles of paper as well. A degree that costs you $40,000 with a 3% interest rate can be stifling with a modest income. With a meager one it’s agony. And for the unemployed it is more bad news and a faster ruined credit score for all parties.
I’m not saying college won’t work folks. I believe in education wholeheartedly. I don’t however believe in piling on debt. I have a sizeable chunk from my collegiate endeavors and while the time was worth it the debt was not.
So I’m here with a different idea:
Work for Free to Learn Your Trade

Doctors, plumbers, electricians and carpenters.
These fields are all in jeopardy of running dramatically low. Actually pilots in America are set for a vast deficit between the new mandates for incoming pilots and the required age limitations for outgoing ones.
Now to be a doctor or pilot requires more than just some free time a dedicated teacher. These careers require vast amounts of time, excess schooling beyond the 4 year program most of us accrue, and so forth.
The exodus into education has all depleted the pool of skilled labor in America. There won’t be enough plumbers, electricians, or carpenters within 20 years or sooner based on a growing pool of statistics. And without these men and women are infrastructure may suffer, but our daily lives will for sure.
Who will fix our homes, and small businesses? And there in lies a pool of opportunity. People there is money to be made. Having done this type of work before I find it both profitable and vastly fulfilling.
and if you can’t get in to the union trade schools try supplementing your learning by working for free. Go on craigslist.org or any site you find useful and put an add in the barter or job section. Someone will love the idea of free labor. You may just be a grunt but earn your lessons. I was cheap labor at first but over time I earned the trust and respect of the company owner and was taught many useful skills across all three fields. Home repair and renovation were my favorite and truth be told I’ve freelanced at it from time to time as well. There is both education and income to be made so seize the day folks. Volunteer. I even had a friend do Americorp and he learned skills. Also you develop your network this way. So there are nothing but wins in this opportunity.

Learn a new language.
As a bonus concept why not learn a new language? Did you know that Hispanics are sweeping the nation statistically? They are. And the employee or interview-ee who can field those calls and crush language barriers will be the winner hands down. Meet the employers needs before asked. Be the go to guy before he is needed. Anticipating trends in the market will make you vastly more valuable and equally employable.

Linkedin Tips and queues for Business

Linkedin Tips and queues for Business

A lot of people use Linkedin. A lot. To the tune of 187 million plus. So with these kind of numbers its obvious you need to be on Linkedin. As the premier business community online I can’t think of a better social media outlet for you to join.
That being said I’m going to break down a few tips here for my readers.

Let’s start with 10 words NOT to use on your Linkedin profile:
•Creative.
•Organizational.
•Effective.
•Motivated.
•Extensive Experience.
•Innovative.
•Analytical.
•Responsible.
•Track Record.
•Problem Solving.
You wouldn’t say you were messy or irresponsible right? So stop using words that amount to nothing more than wasted space. Across seas these three word choices were found to be ditch-worthy as well:
•Experimental.
•Multinational.
•Specialized.

These words sounded good on our resumes when we were young and the internet was in its infancy. However these days we have to get ahead-and fast. Scrub your Linkedin profile clean of these words. Get out in front of the ball folks. If you are recruiting, outsourcing, or just plain need help- you attract the best by being the best.
•Skip these two words/terms as well: Dynamic and Communication skills.

Now here’s a few way to make that Linked in Profile Irresistible:

Update your Photo.
Nothing works as well as a new photo. Just make sure its professional. Also not a group shot or blurry or that tee you don’t wear to work.

Update Your Summary as Well.
Change what’s there. Add the biggest accomplishment(s) for 2012. The Summary is the place to get the word out folks.
Didn’t do one before- DO IT NOW.

Showcase your Recent Volunteering Experience.
Actions speak louder than words folks. Let people see who you are when you aren’t in front of the camera. Haven’t volunteered much lately? Time to start. is a good place to check.

Build that skills list.
Time to change it folks. The Linkedin Skills Search Box will help you by narrowing down what you type in and showing you similar terms and how popular they or others are.
Edit that profile. And don’t forget to include those skills you used volunteering (see last post).

try the Endorsement Feature.
Linkedin has added a cool feature dubbed Endorsements. Use it to give a “thumbs up” to the exceptional people within your network. At your page bottom you will see faces by your skill list- well they gave you a thumb up too. Nice feeling right?

Follow a few new “thought leaders”
This new feature let’s you follow the executive thought leaders- think Henry Blodget. Their posts will show up on your page and will show you the big topics in the year to come.

I will add more Linkedin tips soon folks.

HOW TO GET FREE SILVER

4 Dec

HOW-TO-GET-FREE-SILVER

Now this rocks!  A quick post with an included link to get free silver.

I personally invest in silver and always wanted tangible wealth.  As a kid I collected coins- nothing valuable just a notion.  When I moved out and got married I realized I wanted a safe haven for my income.  Robert Kiyosaki spoke on wealth and the lost value of a dollar and it resonated with me.

Since the 60’s folks the dollars’ purchasing power has been decimated.  I wont point fingers or place blame.  I just want to be wealthy and comfortable as I’m sure you my readers do too.   And while the dollar plummets silver is on the rise.

So how do you get your free silver?

Easy.You can enter here.

Name. Email. That’s it.  It has a spot for your phone number but it’s not mandatory.  The winner does get called though.

-Do you have to buy anything? NO.

-Any costs? – nope.
The most you may be asked is for a testimonial.

If you like the page and feel it is a high converter, and decide you want one- lets talk. Email me @ tony@changeinadvance.com

Where do you enter again?  You can enter here.

10 Quotes To Change Your Life- Zig Ziglar

30 Nov

Gone but never to be forgotten, Zig Ziglar passed on November 28th, 2012.

An entrepreneurial phenomenon who went on to become a motivational speaker and trainer, Zig set ablaze the minds and hearts of myriad people.

Below is a short collection of some of the favorites we’ve seen out there.

10) “Remember that failure is an event, not a person.”

9) “You will get all you want in life, if you help enough other people get what they want.”

8 ) “People often say motivation doesn’t last. Neither does bathing—that’s why we recommend it daily.”

7) “There has never been a statue erected to honor a critic.”

6) “People don’t buy for logical reasons. They buy for emotional reasons.”

5) “Expect the best. Prepare for the worst. Capitalize on what comes.”

4) “If you go looking for a friend, you’re going to find they’re scarce. If you go out to be a friend, you’ll find them everywhere.”

3) “A goal properly set is halfway reached.”

2) “Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude.”

1) “If you can dream it, you can achieve it.”

AUTO PILOT = IGNORANCE

29 Nov

AUTO PILOT = IGNORANCE

Auto-pilot is synonymous with ignorance.
No ifs and or buts about it. Life requires you focus and follow through.

-You can’t be running the show if you’re not there.
Simple. Factual. A leader is out front. He’s running the show. Watch football? The quarterback has to be in the game. He has to be aware, cognizant of all issues and parameters. He’s at the huddle, he calls the audibles, and he adjusts his leadership accordingly. I’ve never seen anyone succeed who isn’t both physically and mentally present. Be where you need to be. Do what is required of you in that moment. Your actions now will dictate your future repercussions. And as such you need to be there now. If you play soccer- be in the game. Feel and control the moment. If you aren’t living in it you’ve already lost.

-When you workout the muscle responds to that. Growth is achieved.
Is your own business not the same?
In the movie The Comeback Arnold Schwarzenegger speaks on focus. He focus on achieving something in 8 weeks that most people don’t achieve in a year. See the movie. There is a treasure trove of insight as to how to be a better bodybuilder/businessman. And the parameters are the same. Focus. Consistency. Participation. Those are perhaps the 3 keys that will set you apart from all entrepreneurs.
When you focus and add consistency to the mix you will win. A leader and or a winner do the same thing- they are consistently the same. Their focus may know no bounds but it has a razor honed focal point. And as for participation- you can’t lead without doing. You can’t win without playing. Its si perfect a concept I won’t belabor it.
Suffice it to say: Get in the game.

-The one exception still has a caveat.
A lot of mlm, home marketing, and online business opportunities all promote running your business on autopilot. And it works it does. However you can’t set it up and walk away. When that works its a ponzi scheme. It has no longevity and zero worth. In my business I see a lot of people who want me to buy these ‘make $ while I sleep’ opportunities. I pay them no mind.
I build up my blog and my network. I make living connections. I foster relationships that don’t pressure people to join or buy in this is the key. A lot of people make money on autopilot. And it works. However it requires a good set up. You see even when you are not working- you had to have put the work in.
Always know nothing makes you better than you. Put in your time, lead by doing, and stay in the game.
