Are Fees More Valuable than Feedback?

Are Fees More Valuable than Feedback?

A lot of us want the money. the dollars, the cheese, the dinero. And there is no shame in that. Any businessman who is honest with him or herself knows its true. Even when I help a client expand their reach, the value I create for myself or the commissions I reap are still awesome. When my clients win I win. When my partners gain I gain.
However I want to ask if you, my invaluable readers have a sale or paypal button and a feedback button?
Better yet do you have a Feedback button?

Fees.
We all pay ’em. Rent, licensing, marketing.
And as much as most people loathe them, they want to collect them equally. Funny paradox huh? See, I used to hate my bills- signing checks, sending money orders- ugh! Too much. But I’ve reached a turning point. Paying bills is kind of cool. I’ve made it to a point where my growth can be measured by my self-sustainability we’ll call it. I’m winning and I see it more and more by both the fees I can pay and those I avoid by being an astute consumer. You see I spend less than I make and though I have debt I’m still winning. However I won’t lie I’d love to increase my income. Who wouldn’t right?
And that being said I love commissions and fees. And they are beneficial. However I have something better in mind-

Feedback.
Feedback stinks. You will be insulted. People will spam you. Offers for cheap Cialis and fake Gucci sneakers will probably flood your comments and feedback boxes. Not to cool I know, but imagine what will rock. Praise, form people who recognize your talent and hard work. Thanks and appreciation form people who like what you have to say and the people you actually help. Every time I get a bad comment I’m not fazed. Its funny actually. However when a flaw is pointed out or a grammatical error- Man oh man do I get pumped! It’s a victory. I’m getting free help. Someone took the time to make me better and that rocks. Even the people who point out flaws with an air of condescension are improving my skills. My mistakes only make me better. And everyone who comments on my site are a blessing. Every single thank you, and positive response I get makes me smile all the way down into my heart. When a trainee catches something, an ahha moment for instance- it makes my day. And if you don’t have a way to harness this raw power, to collect this data- you are losing. Sorry. Everyone who is not open to criticism is a failure. And when you don’t let the positivity in its even worse. Positive affirmations trump all negativity. And the best part of all this: It’s all free.

Growth.
Both fees and feedback will deliver growth. The fees will recoup expenses and if large enough will enable you to expand your business and even live better. And that is growth in two different ways. That is winning. Once you put in the work the rest is easy. Feedback however will not only create better growth- but it will increase fees as well. As you become better by listening in and improving you will begin to dominate.
Awesome right. Your mindset and posture will change and improve almost overnight.

We’ve discussed both options and I’d say it is pretty clear what you need to do folks. Be open to growth. Be open to letting your potential rise exponentially. Fees as I said rock but the feedback will truly build your brand and free your mind.

Work for Free to Learn Your Trade

Work for Free to Learn Your Trade

In the midst of this “great recession” many people are looking for new jobs or even part time jobs. However in this day and age many people are turning to collegiate endeavors in the hopes that it will open doors and move mountains.
In this day and age though experience trumps degrees. Paper is pointless in many fields. It is proving equally difficult to pay for these bundles of paper as well. A degree that costs you $40,000 with a 3% interest rate can be stifling with a modest income. With a meager one it’s agony. And for the unemployed it is more bad news and a faster ruined credit score for all parties.
I’m not saying college won’t work folks. I believe in education wholeheartedly. I don’t however believe in piling on debt. I have a sizeable chunk from my collegiate endeavors and while the time was worth it the debt was not.
So I’m here with a different idea:
Work for Free to Learn Your Trade

Doctors, plumbers, electricians and carpenters.
These fields are all in jeopardy of running dramatically low. Actually pilots in America are set for a vast deficit between the new mandates for incoming pilots and the required age limitations for outgoing ones.
Now to be a doctor or pilot requires more than just some free time a dedicated teacher. These careers require vast amounts of time, excess schooling beyond the 4 year program most of us accrue, and so forth.
The exodus into education has all depleted the pool of skilled labor in America. There won’t be enough plumbers, electricians, or carpenters within 20 years or sooner based on a growing pool of statistics. And without these men and women are infrastructure may suffer, but our daily lives will for sure.
Who will fix our homes, and small businesses? And there in lies a pool of opportunity. People there is money to be made. Having done this type of work before I find it both profitable and vastly fulfilling.
and if you can’t get in to the union trade schools try supplementing your learning by working for free. Go on craigslist.org or any site you find useful and put an add in the barter or job section. Someone will love the idea of free labor. You may just be a grunt but earn your lessons. I was cheap labor at first but over time I earned the trust and respect of the company owner and was taught many useful skills across all three fields. Home repair and renovation were my favorite and truth be told I’ve freelanced at it from time to time as well. There is both education and income to be made so seize the day folks. Volunteer. I even had a friend do Americorp and he learned skills. Also you develop your network this way. So there are nothing but wins in this opportunity.

Learn a new language.
As a bonus concept why not learn a new language? Did you know that Hispanics are sweeping the nation statistically? They are. And the employee or interview-ee who can field those calls and crush language barriers will be the winner hands down. Meet the employers needs before asked. Be the go to guy before he is needed. Anticipating trends in the market will make you vastly more valuable and equally employable.

The Top Reasons Why Your Company Needs a Blog- Part #3

The Top Reasons Why Your Company Needs a Blog- Part #3

Ok folks I changed the title- like it better?
I think its a neater version; concise. So I’m going to round out this trifecta with 4 more tips.

Customer Support Help.
Getting repeat questions from your customers? Are people intrigued by the same issues- or perhaps they are befuddled by one step in your process? Well the easy cool way to fix this is to make a blog post for each issue that pops up often. It takes the burden off your customer support department- which in the early days if your anything like me is just you. Your small business has enough challenges so let’s meet this one head on and kill two birds with one stone. This also shows customers and potential clients that you are dedicated and serious about helping your customers.

Author Credibility.
Want to make your Ceo POP? Perhaps you want to have more of your key employees share their insights and let new ones shine. Well your blog is the place to do it. Doing this will give your employees (and the CEO) some ‘street cred’ and make them feel good. Make this more effective by having every author create a Google+ profile. If they have one, let them take it up a notch. And adding the aforementioned Google Authorship status will really make your business and your blog shine.
Last step- don’t make every post just admin posts.

blog comments and commentors are heaven.. Did I say heaven? I meant pure gold. These comments are essentially you and your customers and clients dialoguing. It gives you key insight and ideas for the future. You can mine this gold for better products or great blog posts too.
It takes a bit of effort and time to comment on a blog post so anyone who takes the time is worth a look. Ask questions, comment, but speak up. These people are potential clients, business partners and more. You may find a twitter worth following or that testimonial for your site you’ve been looking for. Also these comments and your replies add meat to your blog. They also do this for both you and your readers when it comes to search engines. This will make your blog better and easier to index.

Blogging Shows you are still in the game, Still Relevant, Still in Business.
Ever look at a companies website and its obviously dated? You guys know what I mean- the 1990’s theme and scheme aka bad layout. Did you see any social media links or an embed button? Pinterest?
If the site has a blog, is it old with the last post dated 1 year ago or worse? People don’t blog if you won’t do it frequently. Google wants to see you blogging often if you are going to be considered active and worth revisiting regularly and re-indexing. If your site isn’t updated often that tells Google to visit you less. It lowers your sites value to Google. This may even cause Google to rank you lower and lower.

The blog will build for you almost on autopilot, you just have to blog regularly.

For tips and help see my pal @blogheavy. He’s sharp and sets up and manages blogs for small and large businesses. If not feel free to contact me here.

BE ROB DYRDEK

27 Nov

BE ROB DYRDEK

Today I’m going to put aside my normal spiel for a few hours and discuss a pretty cool guy. Rob Dyrdek is a renowned skate boarder and pioneer. He is also one heck of a branding machine and entrepreneur. From an early age he made deals for percentages of the companies who sponsored him as opposed to taking a fee. That’s just a savvy individual. Let’s break down some more Rob.
Rob Dyrdek Focus.
Rob is a focused individual. From the moment he knew what he wanted, what he loved- he made it happen. He’s been vastly successful I’d argue because he only travels one avenue. He may have shoes, a show, clothing and various other entities that feed his income- but they all revolve around skating. Being focused to this degree gives him a simple route. I’d even argue this level of simplicity boarders on eloquence.
Maybe that’s a stretch. I don’t care. I see it clearly. When you have an almost utterly ruthless pursuit of what you love and couple that with what you want you become a dominant force. There is nothing that is accomplished that focus doesn’t obtain for you. When you study for a test you are focusing. When you commit that same focus to your own business you win.
Indeed you will be successful in anything you focus on so be careful what your focus is on. Many people focus on failure. They focus on what went wrong not where they are going. Focus. Focus. Focus.

Rob Dyrdek Mindset.
Rob has a mindset that is simply victorious. He makes dreams reality. He doesn’t shift his reality to make a half arsed dream. He makes a decision- finite. From there he publicly makes it know and refuses to fall behind. Ever see Fantasy Factory. He makes public bets that are quite ostentatious.
Why you say? It essentially forces his hand. And the power gained in being the force that motivates and drives you is invaluable. Let your mindset dictate your existence. If you believe you will be victorious so you shall.

Rob Dyrdek Belief.
Rob believes he can do anything. He has swam with sharks, jumped from planes, flipped cars and built an empire. He even has a slogan: Make Your Own Luck. It’s simple and speaks to his belief system. Rob doesn’t say no, he finds yes’s. This is key. Rob has made his own luck. Literally. What will you make?

Rob Dyrdek Team.
Rob is also a slick fox in that he surrounds himself with winners. A diverse group of winners at that. The team will make the dream come true in many cases.
Don’t associate with people who don’t believe in you. Don’t work with those don’t or won’t share your vision. Work with those who bring something to the table. Success is that much sweeter when we all contribute.
Rob has family and friends. He also has strangers who have become both. Those who go above and beyond deserve more than respect, more than loyalty. They deserve dividends. And when you look at the net worth of those surrounding Rob- its obvious they are all #winning.

DO THE THING THAT SCARES YOU

25 Nov

DO THE THING THAT SCARES YOU

I’ve been pretty blessed lately. I’ve got good friends, good family, and even my cats are pretty neat. They act more like dogs. At work I’m happier than I’ve been in years and I’ve even got some sick days stashed away lol (come on you guys feel me right?).
So everything is fine and dandy, but Tony has no candy. What’s that you say?
Basically I’m not where I see myself needing to be. I’m missing a few keys actions and its slowing down my forward motion.

Fear and inaction are my enemies at this moment and its time and while I whip myself into shape I figured I’d share a few lessons I’m learning.

Momentum.
I’m losing momentum. Yikes. I’m not pleased but its real. How? I’m just not doing what I need to. I get this amazing rush and a huge flurry of action and then I rest on ly laurels and lose almost all of it. Not good.
Folks be better than me. Ride your momentum beyond even its ability to grow your brand.

Not talking to enough ppl.
This is perhaps my biggest fear and biggest set back. I don’t care what your opportunity is, or your vision or your coin aka worth. People make a business a success. Remember the pet rock? People had to buy it to make it real. And I’m a people person in every genre except my business.
Funny huh.
I made RIM $$$$ with the people I convinced that blackberry was superior. Same for my gym and many supplements. And when it comes to my two current ventures I hit a brick wall. I did an insurance business and made money- and fast. It was exciting, fast paced and arduous. And it yielded great fruit. However since that venture I’ve had mixed results. I’ve made money in every venture since that one, yet nothing as good. The biggest reason is I speak less. The internet is building empires without question. However I’m leaving my best tool in the toolbox: ME. I am a closer. A solid salesman. But fear has me talking to less people than my desires warrant. My mentor said as much in a 20 minute call. Ouch right?
So to combat this fear I’ve decide to speak to 3 people a day about my opportunity. And then 3 more about my blog. I’m divvying up my efforts. I’m refusing not grow. Not to reach my apex of greatness. Meet me there.
Not committing enough time.
I give time, no question.
I’m not giving enough.
Make a set parameter and follow its rubric daily. What’s that mean? A lot at least 20 minutes a day and work the hell out of that 20 minutes. Your success directly corresponds to the time you’re willing to put in.

“Expose yourself to your deepest fear; after that, fear has no power, and the fear of freedom shrinks and vanishes. You are free.”

4 TIPS FOR GREAT DAILY PRODUCTIVITY

20 Nov

4 TIPS FOR GREAT DAILY PRODUCTIVITY
WORK STINKS. Punch in, drudgery, drudgery, drudgery-punch out. While that might not be your daily grind many people are stuck in this exact rut.
Password Productivity-
Passwords are needed on everything except the kitchen sink. Sadly people will load viruses, steal credit cards and identities or even crash servers for entertainment. So while we could lament the loss of altruistic behavior I instead see a golden opportunity. Why not use your password as a reminder of a goal or objective. Set a deadline, or timeframe. Example: I promised myself 15 grand pure profits by 2015. So why not make the password 15Grand2015. In this fashion your password is continuously bombarding your conscious and subconscious with a goal. You aren’t agonizing over it. You aren’t redirecting or even misdirecting focus

itunes ready and waiting-
itunes is a great tool. It has your music ready, cataloged and grouped per your liking. I don’t know about the rest of you but music is an expansive tool for me. In the office it sets a smooth groove for me to work in akin to a needle running along the old 45 records- Rich quality, continuity, and completion. When I hit the gym, I have a list ready just for it. These are the tracks that get me the most excited. itunes becomes my hype-man. Lil’ trick folks, use that ‘hype’ playlist only when you need to get hyped up. The songs lose some efficacy when you hear them over and over again. Music can elevate or lower moods as well so use it tactfully and you will find you are quicker, and more flexible at all your tasks.

-Variety makes it all better-
Variety my friends is the seasoning of life. It makes it all better. This is why I enjoy multitasking so much. I take variety and busy schedules and turn them on their ear so they work for me. There is nothing greater than enjoying the differences. I won’t belabor this point.
Suffice it to say enjoy all 31 flavors folks.

-Life Goes On All the Day Long-
No matter what happens in life- the clock keeps ticking. To lose time is ridiculous. Forward motivation is your only concern. In my blog as I am building it, I struggle too. I’ve had days where I can’t post or have missed deadlines. And yes I own up to it. It is totally a TONY issue. Now from this point I can sulk and lose time or reflect and move on. I choose to try and reorganize my time, the flow of my day so to say. I make it a habit to have multiple drafts ready and to try to post 12 hours earlier than I am accustomed to. These little steps have increased productivity and expanded my creative cycle.
Do I still make mistakes? Sure.
Do I regret it? Not at all.
My life is multifaceted and as such I refuse to lose time with my family, friends, or even my craft. I love what I do and will continue to chronicle my entrepreneurial adventures and a trick or two I learn along the way.
Carpe Diem it up folks!!!

SUCCESS IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT

18 Nov

SUCCESS IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT

Life is simple. Business isn’t. However in each and every endeavor what you put into it is what you get out. To get ahead you have to make moves. So let’s hash that out quickly.

True success is described differently by different folks. What you say is success may vary widely compared to my description.
I personally see success as vast achievement in every endeavor you partake of. For me it involves cash flow, family, friends, entrepreneurial success and a Porsche. Lol. Yes a Porsche. I am obsessed with this car. A big wig at my moms job had one and one minuscule ride in the back seat sealed the deal. I love the idea of a nasty little two door Porsche.
Speed agility power. That’s it. And It kind of details what success requires.

-Making moves at the proper speed will take some timing but will build your business rapidly. Speed isn’t always a matter of going fast but of having the ability to transition rapidly or to down shift to an acceptable rate. Having the skill to not only do so but know when to will define your career.

-Agility is simply an extension of speed management. Knowing when to change, to shift directions saves lives and builds fortunes. A lot of businesses aren’t agile. Rim may be the most pointed to example of this. I prefer to use Palm and its treo. And Handspring. These companies were ahead of the curve. They were lapping the competition. Amazing times were in store. Then Google, Apple, and some others spit on their graves. What killed them? They couldn’t shift. No agility. Life requires pivots. Some curves are insurmountable in appearance. An agile businessman however sees turns in advance and changes (Change In Advance get it).
In business you won’t be on top forever. The only way it is even possible is to move forward and be that change. Let the customers and the world know what they want. Be ahead or be behind. Just be agile enough to change lanes at a moments notice.

-Power is simple. Its forceful. Its logical.
You need to be powerful. You don’t need to be ignorant and drunk with power. It also need not necessarily be physical. True power comes from within. Power comes in many forms, but true power can change lives dramatically. My power comes from an ability to give and teach. I use my words to inspire and shape. I mold minds as mine was once molded. My strength in the gym or my powerful prose are worthless when it comes to giving. What makes me strong is simply that I give. I make every effort to build up those who are inclined to listen. In a recent election I cleared over 70% of the vote. 70%. It wasn’t me being better or cooler. It was people putting their faith in what I’d already done. When asked for help I don’t turn people down. I give. Such is required of those who are given much. And so I feel that I must give. Power is to be shared to be used. Then it grows.
Understand?

Let’s build a greater power base. We are all stronger together. As such power was shared with me I now share it with anyone ready to listen.

Your Body is A Result Of The Path You Take (So Is Your Business)

10 Nov
Your Body is A Result Of The Path You Take
    (So Is Your Business)

If you read my blog you will see I’m quite an enthusiast for bodybuilding and weightlifting in general. To me they are the
true athletes. These two branches of the same tree require more effort and longer time frames. They require an inner greatness most refuse to accept resides inside them. Indeed many people are afraid to rise to the greatness that is humanity at large. But I digress- what bothers me most is that people will blame everyone but themselves. Ever see the guy or gal who is in the gym 3 times week and has no results?
Its scarily normal. They do circuit training and read Men’s Health and all that jazz. Yet they stop there.
And this is why they fail. Your body will be no more than the path you travel. Simple. Easy. Factual. Your body is a manifestation of you. It is essentially you. If you are mad at your shape or lack of muscle tone you are to blame. If you are at your pinnacle, the zenith- then you win. You have done what you set out to. See me, I’ve been there. Thrice. And receded. Thrice. No good. The cool part is I don’t quit. I fight my way back repeatedly until I win. However my failures are my fault. I walked off my path. At one point I hit 293 lbs and flabby. And when I chose to fight I hit 243 in 3.5 months. Will power, did it for me. I had supplements and a good gym. And I changed my diet and eating habits. It worked; because I worked hard at being a better me. And when I wanted to benchpress 325 pounds with no help – I did it. ME.
You see the mind is a fickle thing. It requires you to believe in it. It requires your heart be part of the conspiracy. You see to get anything done requires a conspiracy. Now I don’t mean the negative birther kind.
Conspiring can be perceived as you and your mind and heart meeting to beat your body. And that isn’t bad. You may prefer teamwork as the term of choice. I say no.
We as people wanting to improve our bodies must conspire against our bodies.
Tom Platz said ‘Put Your mind in the muscle’. He is right (Fyi Mr. Platz is a world renowned body builder). To get his body right required his mind to be the best and the boss.

Okay I droned on enough. How does this all relate? Well, Your business won’t be more than you are. If your paperwork is shabby you lose. If your product is trash, find a garbage can. Not to be a jerk but your business is a result of the path you take; of the path you choose. You are in charge.
What growth you gain you manifest. Make a decision- stick with it. Be more than your idea. Be the boss. Be the fact. Be the fiction. Every business begins with a dream and from there you must make the rest balloon larger than reality. The path you choose is the only thing that will make you a success or a failure.
Simply put we get only what we put in. Leadership requires you lead.
    Success requires you make moves.
    What will you do?
Will you choose the truth? Or blame the economy?
