What I didn’t know when I started my business.

8 Jul

Well folks I started with a different article and halfway through I chucked it. Well, actually its in the saved drafts folder lol.
The lesson there is don’t throw out what you worked hard on. And now for the meat of this article:
What I didn’t know when I started my business.

When I started my business I made a heck of a lot of mistakes. Some weren’t the business killer kind. And some were. I’m going to give you the bad and then the good so you can avoid my ignorance.

-Hard sell.
I was big on this. I tried to pressure anyone who would listen that I had the best idea ever! No really it was. And then I went on to the next one. Guess I was wrong as well as a jerk. People don’t want a hard sell. Ever been to the car dealership and the jerk who tries every tactic he knows- but can’t close you? Yeah, don’t be that guy. It kills sales, recruiting and even friendships. I even sold one solid lead into a different company. Lesson here is simply hard sell doesn’t work. Better yet don’t sell unless you are only concerned with a sale. Singular. Repeat customers need a relationships. Teams need leadership and friendship. Get it done people.

-Too many mlms (at once).
This is killer. I joined one that I made good money in. I hit the ground running and checks came in. I hit benchmark after benchmark. And I had a killer mentor. This guy was knocking em down for 25 years. Then I joined another venture. And this one was more sensible and I fell in love with the product. I didn’t even try to hard to move this one because I had checks from company A. And want to laugh now? I joined another venture that was super hyped and said to be easier. Also my recruiter told me the bad news about my venture that no one else had. Yup. So what do we learn here? I joined way too much. I spread myself way toooooo thin. You can’t focus on multiple targets. Ever see a sniper work? Its methodical. Acquire. Gauge distance. Take down. Repeat. Simple right- and yet I went right past it. That’s how you work a venture too.
Focus.
Do what works.
And then do it again.
Lastly. Do only one business at a time. If you reach the pinnacle, and you can almost move on autopilot then you build bigger. Example: in an mlm you build one complete team before you start team two. That’s how you build strong and build long.

-Beating up my warm market.
Man did I abuse people. Everyone was a target. Everyone was a casualty or a victim. Sorry to say but it worked that way. Anyone I knew casually or better was who I wanted to join. Didn’t matter if they would. BIG mistake. I didn’t vet anyone. Not everyone wants to join. And when you anger alienate or frustrate- you annihilate your business.
My advice to my readers is think hard and long before you approach those closest to you. Sometimes its better to seek your fortunes elsewhere and let them see you blossom. If you can work that way you will surely see growth. (If you can’t let’s chat on how to get that cold lead market growing.)

-Losing momentum.
In my current venture I got in quick. It was the perfect opportunity. And it had no weekly meetings in costly or distant venues. So I joined quick. It was a super easy sell. But I got in and didn’t worry. Business one had me swimming in money and confidence. So I was sullen- sort of. I didn’t care because I had joined and my auto-ship was billed right to a credit card so I wouldn’t miss a payment. Sadly I lost momentum in both ventures. Next thing you know I was committing cash and doing nothing. Now leaving venture one I don’t regret. What I do regret is losing that momentum from it. That company had me ready. It had me hyped. Its training via my mentor was good. But my lost momentum blinded me to the great training in venture two. So to sum it up my friends- once you have momentum don’t let it go. You keep it and harness it. That is the key to most anything in life. See a sports player- he or she will agree. They build from success to success until they have a championship or three.

-Not budgeting properly.
Oh man did I forget this. Your expenses must be accounted for. Don’t forget that they exist. The dream. The gold to be mined. The waiting fortune will ALL be real. But the bills are two. Make sure you know what your costs and liabilities are up front and write them out in monthly and yearly sums. Then let that number motivate you to exceed it by 600%. Why? Because a 500% ROI is a great goal and if you miss it you have a long way to fall.

-Not investing enough time.
I spoke on this indirectly earlier so I’ll keep it short.
They say it takes two to three years to turn a dreamer into a successful business man. You have to put in the hours.
You have to put in the sweat equity.
A big one I’ve heard over and over is it takes 10,000 hours to become a pro at anything. That’s right, ten thousand hours my friends.

Now here’s what I did right:

-I didn’t quit.
In my current venture (fyi it was the second in the three that happened almost all at once) I didn’t quit. I haven’t ever. I stuck it out and the longer I’m in the more fruit I see. It is working and working well. I’m putting in the hours. I’m building the relationships. I hit all the webinars and take notes. This is an easy sell folks: what you don’t quit you don’t lose. See my earlier post on said topic.

-I didn’t skip my auto-ship.
Sorry but if your venture has one stick with it. Missing months loses you points. But that’s no big deal. Sorry to those cringing but it isn’t. Want to know what the big deal is? Your choppy sloppy attitude shows your recruits, warm market, friends and family that they shouldn’t follow you. Why? Because you are inconsistent. Ouch. Want to know how that gets worse? Those who follow you into your venture will repeat your actions. They will model your inconsistencies and failures simply because the example you set is trash. Everything your business suggests- do it. And do it again.

-I multi-task like a madman.
Yup. That’s right. I can get it all done. How? Why? It works.
How: I make lists and cross off what is completed. Then I remake my lists.
I also set goals. Small goals that build my momentum. Now as for the why- I like to get it done. At work I make myself and my partners look good by doing just that. What is required gets done. And if I didn’t add this part: doing three tasks at once for me works. But I don’t recruit, sell, and file taxes at once. I go to the gym and meet the days required lifts. And then I talk to my fellow gym rats and see if I can solve their problems. While I’m driving home I dictate lists into my smart phone. I also dictate articles into said phone. See the pattern?
Good- duplicate it.

Jim Cramer – Why Silver is Going Higher

STEROIDS DONT KILL

6 Jul

Ever notice that people aren’t willing to let others success simply be?
I was talking about Arnold Schwarzenegger and other Olympic bodybuilders with some coworkers. And you know what the common theme and first responses to my holding these men in such high esteem was?
‘Yeah he roided up.”
Or
‘You can’t get that big without cheating.”
Or
‘Steroids kill.’
And finally-
‘He couldn’t do that naturally.’

Now the use of steroids isn’t the issue for this article. My three points of contention are as follows:
-People hate/are jealous without rhyme or reason.
People will hate you. Simple truth. Hate and anger are usually internal issues turned outwards. And what that means is that most people will find a reason to hate you. And the greater you become the more hate you will garner. As with the Schwarzenegger issue. People found reasons to hate his success. They slandered and denigrated the man. It was simple. This man was a foreigner who rose. And people will hate you like they hated him. Assuming he did wrong and or cheated to the top is callous. For him to even make the steroids work requires the effort, diet, and time in the gym. Sorry I’m not an advocate for steroids but I know a thing or two about working out and you have to put the work in.

-The people you are with don’t always edify you.
Its sad but true. A lot of people we are close to don’t feed our greatness. And in life, what you put in you get OUT. So if your friends are always downplaying your creativity- cut them loose. If your boss denigrates you repetitiously- get a new job. Or you start your own business in any case you have to remove those people who don’t build you up. No- You MUST separate yourself from those who won’t increase your value.

-The people surrounding you bring negative vibes that may stave off results- you know, success, wealth, happiness. The good stuff.
Sorry to say but naysayers ruin momentum. Fools bring ignorance. And a doubting thomas may cause you to doubt yourself. These people come across in many forms and mentalities. And many come in the guise of friends, family, and even business partners. You are probably surrounded by more negativity than you see. A lot of people you have been in the trenches with. And a lot hide their negativity. Learn to avoid both. How you say? Simple. Watch patterns. Time behaviors. Everything you need to know about the negative nicks is there. You only have to be willing to believe it. Will you?

In life many people want you to fail. Some people think they need you to fail. I say you only have the chance to succeed.
And as I always say- Hate is Love.

You cannot lose unless you quit.

4 Jul

Keeping it simple today folks.
You cannot lose unless you quit.

Life doesn’t become any easier to grasp and implement. A loser is someone who quits pure and simple. When you commit to an action you must follow through.
You may not come in first place.
You may not reach your sales goal.
You may come in third.
Did you give it your all? If so you won. Really folks- If you quit when you saw you weren’t going to get to the top this go round- you are a loser. A lot of life is simply showing up and participating. So if you do those two things to the full measure of your abilities you are a winner.

-Sales is a numbers game. All business is.
Even Obama needs the votes. Its how it works. So if you are aiming to reach the pinnacle and commission like heck- do you quit? No. Because when you do you breed failure and that skews the numbers in their favor not yours. Also when you quit you set a bad example for your team. Why work with a quitter? He/she can’t teach me anything is what people will think. You will lose future sales and recruits as well once people see that you aren’t the winner you claimed to be on facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. So why quit and then multiply that loss by an exponential amount. The same exponential loss can be exponential gain. Speak on the lesson you learn in your blogs and social media outlets. Besides adding authenticity to your journey it shows people your human and these people will join you. They will buy from you. There is potential to grow when we lose because failures make winners. It is akin to a baby learning to walk. We’ve all seen it and smiled. They stand then fall on their bottom. They rise and take a few steps. Then use your leg to cheat. Then they fall. Yet as time progresses. They gain balance and a sense of what they are doing- so will you. Also their muscle memory increases and learns. And then they are in their groove. The same applies to you. Success, winning can be habits. If you let them. So turn everything into victory.

-How you lose is winning.
Its true. If you lose a race and throw a tantrum people will disdain you.
If you spit on the winner or break your trophy you reek of ignorance and contempt.
What you do speaks volumes so why let your actions speak pure failure and disgust.
As I’ve said before- ACT AS IF. Act as a winner. Act as a king. Act out your success even in defeat and there is no loss.
If you come in second and the race was close and it was down to the wire- people will remember you. They will cheer you and even your opponents will be drawn close to you.

You cannot lose unless you quit.
Point blank period. There is nothing to think about. Every action and result is a victory if you make it. Every time you are bested teaches you something. Anytime you learn you win. For example you pitched your heart out. To ten ppl today. And the day before. And the day before. And you didn’t get one bite. However if you look at your results you will find answers. You will learn what you should do. You will discover what you didn’t. wrong. It may be the time you asked. It may be who you asked. It could be anything. But these little details allow you to craft your pitch. They allow you to emerge victorious in every instance. So the only question is will you find the victories that exist in every loss or will you quit?

YOUR JOB IS WORTHLESS.

2 Jul

YOUR JOB IS WORTHLESS.

No seriously. Your job will not get you to a comfy retirement let alone a great income. Now I’m sure many of you are going elsewhere at this very moment insisting to yourself and anyone who will listen that Tony has gone nuts! However let’s go through the facts.

-You fund Your retirement now.
My father has a defined benefit plan. His job offered a retirement based on pay grade and years in service and such. Nowadays this is being attacked as well. My point though is much scarier. Companies and municipalities alike are require more of your income to fund your retirement. And they chip in at most two percent. Wow. Nice. Maybe you get a match of up to six percent but that’s peanuts. You have to fund your retirement now out of your meager incomes and its not helping you that much once inflation and health costs get factored in. The sad fact is you are losing and you agreed to it. Now some of you are savvy investors. I try but I bet my readers blow me away in this category. The sad point here is you are now your future and if your present requires much cash you are stuck.

-Your Healthcare plans are trash now.
Healthcare is under attack no matter what side of the debate you are on. But its safe to say we will all lose something in this shake up. I have excellent care. What they call a cadillac plan. And no matter what happens in the next year and a half or so I’m sure I will lose something. My co-pays are up and my quality of service is down. Not what I signed on for. And your hmo?

-Maternity leave in America is a joke.
Always has been always will be. You can’t change this unless you leave the country or try one simple solution we will discuss later. We get six to twelve weeks. Wow. Thanks. Some countries give two years at full pay per parent. That’s four years to rear your child’s most important developmental stages. Not getting that here I bet.

-Taxes are killing you every check.
Every hour you work a third or more leaves your pocket. And yeah yeah, I know it funds our cities and armies and trash collection- but I’ve seen nothing but government wanting more. So the job being done costs more but the workers are taxed less and like we spoke about- are paying their own retirement. Yikes! Why pay? Because its jail if not. You lose spo much money before you even see it. My good readers I believe you would settle up with Uncle Sam annually and I further believe that you could use said funds better up font to soothe the loss they add up to. Shame Uncle Sam doesn’t trust like I do….

-Your income tax return is a joke that you fund and draws less interest than you could get elsewhere.
You get a few grand if you are lucky. I’m not. I have debt and no home to claim or kids to claim. So Uncle Sam loves me. But I owe every year about two hundred bucks. Why? Because I put my funds to better use and I refuse not to control my dollars. I claim more upfront and as such my cost of living is up and I have less day to day pressure on my cashflow. Are you getting the same or licking your chops at a few bucks that are yours in the first place being given back on someone else’s schedule?

-80 is the new 60.
Aka retirement ages are rising. If I stay at my job I won’t retire until I’m 67 they say. Economy is slowly dying so I bet 80. And so do many economists. Google it people. Do you want to work that many years? I started at 11. Ouch. Yeah we really want to work just to retire. I want to work for enjoyment and a legacy- you?

Now that we’ve covered the bad would anyone like to know the solution to this fiduciary nightmare?
Start your own business. Live your own life.
Its the only way folks. You dictate your terms or you give up. Starting your own business part time is the solution. It will solve every issue we have covered. Increasing your tax returns frees up income. Writing off daily expenses through your business building increases this factor as well. In fact your quality of life can increase immediately by transferring liabilities and wants to your business. The business can pay for trips and automobile leases et al. Also stop using your credit. Why risk it when a business not only does this for you but can shield you from potentially costly losses. And you can get low cost loans and grants to do this! The government encourages it and subsidizes it. Some 60+ percent of all jobs are created by small business. So you are not only securing your freedom but in theory helping your community and country. Sounds perfect right? Also that maternity/paternity leave- if you were the boss you could be there for every first step, word, and kiss. All the soccer games and recitals. Maybe you don’t want kids- fine. Enjoy working your schedule as you see fit. Retire? Why would you. A mentor of mine is approaching 70 and has twin eight year olds. He makes his hours and does every Thanksgiving in Hawaii. He’s my hero. He does as he pleases. Now he’s no slouch, get it right. But he has raised a self made millionaire and has two little ones who are benefiting and seeing first hand what a dad who is free can do.
What are you looking for. I want choices. Freedom. And a Ferrari. I won’t lie. But working for someone else rarely gets you there. Let’s work together to live our dreams and supply dreams for the less fortunate.
You with me?

I WOULD BE A SITH

10 Jun

I WOULD BE A SITH

So, most people will hate me for this, but hey I’m honest.  I couldn’t be a Jedi.  Denying everything I might ever want.  Ignoring urges, needs, and desires to be broke, technically homeless, and wear snazzy robes?  Nope not for me.  Sorry.  See I like Lamborghinis. Ferraris, Porsches, and M3s oh my!

Back to focus though- first I apologize for the lack of articles.  I had some technically difficulties and had to write on scratch paper until I could get my tech back to perfection.  As I was saying- I would be a Sith.

The Sith are comparably powerful, self indulgent, and are still masters of their craft.  All things that most people when they are honest will agree that they approve of.

-No one wakes up denying a lust for success.

Everyone wants to be successful.  To complete goals and dreams gives a sense of success, confidence and poise.  People who build from success to success are guess what?  Extremely successful you see I’ve never met a person who wanted to be third place.  Heck, no one goes to the Olympics for silver!  We all want to be winners.  To triumph where others fail and where few shall venture is the very pinnacle of existence in some cultures and for many many people.  Have you never not wanted more? Pardon the double negative but I write it purposely to convey my point.  When you were little and you played monopoly you wanted to win.  You may have bought the crap properties but you had a strategy that you thought led down the path to victory.  I rest my case.

-Sith chase their desires.

When you were young, and maybe even in your older age (I digress I’m in my 30s) you wanted things.  To race cars, build a motorcycle, relive the movie easy riders.
Today many of us have traded freedom for security. What I mean is that we have traded jobs for dreams and mortgages for adventures. Now there’s no problem with growing up- can’t be Peter Pan forever. Yet slaving all day under a boss is surely not the American dream. Take me for example. I want to work, but for myself. I don’t want a boss.
I don’t want a mortgage, unless there is some tax gains to be had.
I don’t want to need a union.
I don’t want the economy to dictate my employability or impede my financial goals.
I do want freedom to do as I please.
I do want time to watch my children grow.
I do want to fire my boss.
I do want to vacation anywhere, at the drop of a dime.
Don’t you?
Isn’t it time to chase dreams?
Can’t work be the same amount of passion and fun as activities you control and build wealth on?

-Sith focus.

Simple point to grasp. What you focus on you will obtain. Focused on fun. You will get it. Focused on girls, you’ll have ten.
Focus dictates your reality. If you are not focused on achieving greatness you will be nothing. Sith focused on achieving power and greatness. Shouldn’t you focus on the same if you want to leave the 9 to 5 grind behind?

-Sith hone their craft.
You want to be wealthy. You will use options or perhaps real estate or an MLM. No matter the path to wealth and freedom you choose you must work at the skills it takes to accomplish it. Flippers need to know variables, comps, tax rules, et al. Options traders must know candle stick charts, timing, and when to get in and out of an option. And in MLM you have to know how to identify your warm market, seize your cold one, and solve problems for people.
In any venture and all ventures you must learn the skills needed. And this is a lifetime process.
Ted williams talked to pitchers to learn their habits. He examined the game. He used the sports casters and news reporters hatred to fuel him. He worked day in and day out at his task and his reward was true baseball greatness.
Work at being great and you will be.

There is nothing wrong with being only partially altruistic when chasing your dreams. But if you focus and give back you will succeed. If you practice daily. You will succeed.

Let desires and wants add fuel to your why to get you to your dream accomplishment.
