Top 25 Bodybuilding Tips

Could you use some helpful tips to improve your workouts and physique?

I’m sure you can, and what better way to help bodybuilders like you then to share my favorite bodybuilding tips from some of the legends in bodybuilding. bodybuilding tips

Below you will find my personal collection of golden nuggets from the industry’s top professional bodybuilders going all the way back to the Golden Era up to today’s top bodybuilding stars.

Now, without further ado, here they are:

  1. Ronnie Coleman. “Without letting your ego carry you away, go as heavy as your strength allows for the strict execution of each movement. Strict means no cheating on an exercise by calling secondary muscle groups into play. Your goal is to build the best physique your genetics will allow.”
  2. Franco Columbo. “Most gyms can be broken down into two segments. There are members who socialize and there are the champions. From the moment you enter the gym you should visualize what you are going to do.”
  3. Jay Cutler. “If you want to get big, you gotta learn to feel it. No exercise works if you don’t feel it in the muscle that you’re targeting. A lot of guys rely on mirrors to tell them whether or not an exercise is working, but that doesn’t make sense to me. I think about getting the ultimate contraction in the muscle I’m targeting and I don’t stop until I feel that.”
  4. Danny Padilla. “Visualize what you want to look like before a show and then come up with a plan to achieve that condition.”
  5. Dave Draper. “Be alert to the needs of your training partner and of the team. If your workout needs adjustment, talk about the changes. Share your attitudes and ideas, triumphs and injuries.”
  6. Lou Ferrigno. “Too many people are concerned with how much they can bench or how much they can squat or deadlift. You need to train like a bodybuilder, hitting all body parts equally, and know what your safety limit is. If you’re concerned about how much you can bench for one rep, go to a powerlifting competition.”
  7. Kevin Levrone. “I absolutely recommend an NO2 component for pre-workout. It warms up the machine and gets blood to the muscle. Just be careful you’re not buying garbage.”
  8. Rich Gaspari. “Training a muscle to failure is what’s going to make you basically build your body. Your body doesn’t know the weight. The body knows failure. And when you go to failure, it’s going to build up.”
  9. Kai Greene. “You make it more complicated when you start thinking we need to add more weight. The primary goal is not to lift weights. I’ll never be a weightlifter. A bodybuilder is primarily concerned with contracting his muscles.”
  10. Lee Haney. “As with all of my training, my motto for triceps is “Stimulate, don’t annihilate!” Arm muscles, in particular, are relatively small and, as such, can be easily over trained. The idea is to hit the muscles hard and fast, and then get out of the gym and enjoy your life.”
  11. Phil Heath. “You don’t have to reinvent the wheel. You don’t have to come up with any exotic movements if what you’re currently doing is working. The goal is to find out what works.”
  12. Dexter Jackson. “My motto has always been, to be better than the previous show.”
  13. Lee Labrada. “Always be learning. Believe me, if you aren’t continuously filling your mind with accurate and useful information to help you achieve your goals, all kinds of muck and garbage will “seep” into your brain and fill the void.”
  14. Ron Love. “Bodybuilding is like no other sport in the world. You got to be hardcore all the way.”
  15. Mike Mentzer. “It is the quality of the effort, not the quantity, which is responsible for growth stimulation. Don’t confuse training long with training hard. Training hard, intensely, is what is required to build muscle mass.”
  16. Sergio Oliva. “If you train hard, eat well with quality protein, and take a good vitamin and mineral, then you can achieve a good physique. And a good physique comes from about 45% of your genes, whereas the rest is from training.”
  17. Tom Platz. “After being taught sets and reps and working at it for a length of time you can’t paint by numbers anymore. It must come from within. Any artist has an emotional contact with their work. A true bodybuilder doesn’t just build muscle he creates muscle. You can’t be a robot.”
  18. Shawn Ray. “Changes in your physique will evolve not so much from your diet as from your training. What you do in the gym determines the quality of your separation, hardness and detail. Trust the mirror, not your diet chart. I look in the mirror after I’m done training, not after I’m done eating.”
  19. Arnold Schwarzenegger. “You’ll find, as I did, that building muscle builds you up in every part of your life. Bodybuilders who have to force themselves to go to the gym and work out will never achieve the kind of success possible for those who can’t wait to hit the gym and start pumping iron.”
  20. Larry Scott. “I really don’t believe there is one best training schedule. No matter how much you think you’ve designed the best system, your body will prove you wrong. It always figures it out and then you start to go stale so you have to change.”
  21. Branch Warren. “To become a great professional bodybuilder, you need to be dedicated, consistent and have the drive to want to compete. No matter what comes your way, you’ve got to be able to push past it and persevere. It’s all about reaching your goals.”
  22. Flex Wheeler. “For the average bodybuilder, I recommend balance in life, and to focus more on doing things that last and will make you and others you love happy.”
  23. Dennis Wolf. “Any muscle must recover fully between workouts to grow, and working biceps more often and with many sets is going to prevent most guys from seeing gains, the exact opposite of what they want.”
  24. Dorian Yates. “I was always meticulous about keeping a training diary, keeping records of my nutrition and everything I did so I could find exactly what worked for me. Nobody knows your body better than yourself.”
  25. Frank Zane. “Quality muscle takes time to develop, it’s better to add not more than 5 lbs of solid muscle a year by training and eating right than to gain 30-40 lbs of surplus tissue, much of which is fat and water retention.”

So there you have it: 25 of my favorite bodybuilding tips from the legends, all sharing their insights on how you can succeed in bodybuilding.

20 to 30 Years to be Rich- I don’t think so. (And you Shouldn’t either)

4 Oct

20 to 30 Years to be Rich- I don’t think so.
(And you Shouldn’t either)

I was watching Coming to America earlier and one guy tells the other to work hard and in 20 or 30 years he Might have what the other guys.
Sorry folks I literally cringed. I was raised to have a great work ethic. I had my first job at 11 and loved it. My parents always worked to put us in better schools and in a home and out of the projects. This is no sob story, understand they lived the American dream for their kids. They made sure we had a leg up. And that was awesome.

Times have changed though.
I hate the idea of waiting 30 years. Hell 20 years is too long. The debate last night only proved this to me. Hang in there folks I’ll make sense of all this.

The concept of school, college, advanced degree, marriages, kids and then the excellent life is a farce. I wholeheartedly believe we were made to achieve and achieve rapidly. School is being sold as the key but a trillion dollars of debt may be suggesting otherwise. I went to college. And my job, my moxy, my business cunning and connections are not related or interconnected to a bachelors degree or advanced degree. Now these things work, I’m not knocking them. I’m merely saying there is more than one way to skin a cat (sorry Peta).

As for the debate the point I’m making is that money is to be made. Romney made loot. Obama cashed in heavy on the book deals and after he leaves the White House I guarantee his speaking engagements will be many and prosperous. See where I’m going. Both men made it to the top. They are both in the 1%. Different avenues but opportunities were made.
This is my intention as well. I will make my fortune. I’m laying my foundation now. I just want it faster. Do not misconstrue me as saying I’m better than these gentlemen, I’m simply saying I can’t wait much longer. I tried the traditional path and learned it won’t work for me. Not all horses are suitable for riding. Some are free spirits.
And while bound by the laws of economics, I know the markets are fickle and that there are always new opportunities. And I will find them.

Never let yourself be told how to get to the top.
Never let others deflate your dreams.
Never say I can’t.
Never be less than you are.
Make every action a moment of gain or of executable excellence.
Every step you take should be guided by a finite goal. If you want to be a teacher- follow the path.
You dream of owning a pawnshop-do it! Intern if you have too (Shout to the recent Heavy Hitters magazine!).
20 years is along time. 30 is worse. Make moves fast, thought out, but fast. When this is your modus operandi you will eat sleep and breathe success. And you will get there sooner. And isn’t that cool? More time to live and less time to work/slave.
Meet me at the finish line.

Our Thoughts Create Our World

2 Oct

Our Thoughts Create Our World

Not much to add there honestly. However its quite deep. Our thoughts make everything we do or receive materialize. Life is a series of actions yes, but our thoughts predate all our actions. And so I ask: What are YOU Thinking about?

-Mindset.
What is your mindset?
Mine has been to have a business but not build it for years. I’ll admit it.
I wanted a business.
I wanted success.
I wanted the dream.
But my mindset dictated a minimal man. Oh I talked the talk and walked the walk- but I wasn’t making moves. Why you ask? Mindset. Mine was one of coasting. I’d take a first step, sometimes a second and then stop. Fear would set in. Or I’d get my paycheck from my union job and realize I wasn’t too hungry. My belly wasn’t quite empty. I was semi-full a little too often. Mindset when I worked freelance was that f a hungry cub, union work had made me into a gazelle. You see my thoughts had created safety out of my desire for a steady paycheck. No more. Now I want it all!

-Visualizing the end goal.
This is so integral I might call it breathing.
To win the race you have to visualize the victory. You have to see it to make it happen. Everyone says they are winners.
Everyone says they want it all. And yet and still at the end of the night they go to bed dreaming of nothing and only visualizing the rent, the car note, co-pays, and the other daily nonsense. Nonsense! Tony you are a jerk! No. Tony has the same bills, worries and needs. The difference: these items equal fuel for me. I see my cost basis as a starting point in earnings. I see the Lamborghini for sure, and I also see a life where con edison is my ally by supplying my electricity and not an enemy for charging me for it.

-Making the end goal materialize
Now that you know what you have to see in the minds eye- how the heck do you get it?!
Simple: steadfast dedication. Commitment.
Make your goal as simple and as regular as breathing. That’s it. And yes you will stumble. You will fail. However you can’t get it right without making moves. All of this starts in your mind. Let your thoughts be a compass. Thoughts can not only lead the way but create a future and blaze a path.
I promise what you think of is what you will get.
If you think you are a loser you will be.
If you think of only that one moment, that one moment that counts- you will succeed.
Bruce Jenner did this. When he won his gold medal he focused only on being better than he was. On only giving more that ne had ever given. To let that last sinew create magic. His thoughts were filled only with success. And for a dyslexic male he has triumphed beyond what he was destined for statistically.
Are you ready to commit?
Is your mind set on this one goal?
If your mind is set on creating destiny it will. If its set on mediocrity you will reap just that.
Let your world be your thoughts and your thoughts be your world.
Only let GREATNESS be your thoughts.

Productivity Plan (no frills, no sales, just facts)

13 Sep

Productivity Plan
(no frills, no sales, just facts)

Productivity not activity my friends. A lot of people will focus on action as that seems to be the best. However do you swim?
Ever tread water?
Yeah, exactly you’re going nowhere. And sure you’re keeping afloat- but is that what you wanted out of life? I bet not.

Average is not our intended purpose and I always say can’t isn’t in a man’s vocabulary. So let’s cover some quick steps to increase your productivity.

-Don’t be on auto-pilot.
Have you got your game plan? Are you running through the motions. Don’t. We all have needs and goals and a system at work. Learn yours.
More on this here: http://bit.ly/OiUZdp

-Self development plan.
You have to grow. Period. You don’t, your income doesn’t. Your quality of life doesn’t. Your business, yup it won’t either. Momentum can take you places. No question. However if you don’t grow you will not keep it. Life only works when you work. And your number one goal is to grow yourself. Commit to yourself. When you work on you everything else falls into place.
If you’re winging it chances are at a certain point you will make a bad decision. Skip that. GROW YOU.

-Understand value.
Its not about your perception of value but whether or not you actually add to the market place.
A lot of people think they create value when they do what they like, how they like. I like to write, no question about that- but I want to give back here. So I do my homework. I ask questions. I research. And when a concept comes together that will deliver the value, I write. Value comes in many forms. To make sure you give value- see what people think of what you do, your output and performance.
Taken a step further and its also about what you add to your community. The neighbor who doesn’t care isn’t helping. The one who looks out for you in invaluable. You both gain a friend, an ally and peace of mind.
Get the gist?

-Basic marketing concepts are a must.
I’m still learning these concepts. But without a knowledge of key marketing concepts you will stutter start often.
Know how to reach your target group.
Know your marketing needs and strategies.
Dan Kennedys Ultimate Sales Letter is a good start point.

-Outcome isn’t everything.
Don’t worry about how it ends but how you do. When you focus only on closing you will lose recruits and clients. When all you want is home runs. You will miss a base hit waiting on that perfect pitch. The less I care what happens and more about what I’m doing- the better my results. See the correlation?

-Exercise Daily.
Exercise frees the mind. It clears the intellect to create and comprehend as well. Exercise will also stave off sickness which means you have less down time thus creating more time for business. You can exercise at home.
Get an app, take the stairs, and park further away.
Join a gym.
Any option to increase your physical activity.

-Create a routine.
A simple one you can stick too.
A plan that will increase performance.
This will. Increase value and breed success. And the best part is that it doesn’t have to be a marathon. It doesn’t have to be endurance based either. Its not a marathon. Its a habit. Its a tool. An easy routine will ensure success. It will create value. And when you tell people to do this- they will see that you have. And that means- they can do it too! Being able to reproduce what they see is a fast way to increase results.
Make the routine, stick with it, have integrity.

MY NEW BOSSES FRIEND

30 Aug

MY NEW BOSSES FRIEND

Okay people I’m going to cover some hard and fast rules that are often forgotten. Let me preface with a story.

So on facebook my brother and I get into some heated discussions with numerous people over politics, religion, ethnicity and more. And for a while it was great fun. Sharpening my debating skills and bantering with older professionals and what not. We even had some family and their friends in on our discourse. However sometimes things got rowdy. People cursed and berated. With zeal. Something I don’t condone. Long story short a family friend and I met more in the middle of these debates tan his brother and my brother who got more heated than needed. Neither of us yelled online in all caps or cursed and berated either which was nice. We also work in the same field so there was good common ground there as well. While not friends per say I enjoyed his point of view and manner of getting his points across

Fast forward two years and I’ve got a new boss at my job. Now I’m pumped because I thrive on change and challenge. Also from what I gleamed the new boss is cool and approachable. And I’m also one for proactive leadership so this seems like a great time to be at my job. Now my coworkers disagree but that’s a different article. Suffice it to say I get a message on facebook and its from my buddy. And he says ‘hey buddy how do you like your new boss? He’s my friend and had wonderful things to say about you.”

Now this was great! I found out my new boss is fond of me and approves of my performance. Much better than hearing that I’m a belligerent jerk. Or a lay around. Needless to say I work hard to be on point in anything I do and was pleased to hear this. From here let’s get into a few lesson points.

-Everyone is watching.
Yup people are always watching. Either to see you fail or because they are curious. Or because you are failing and they love watching the ship go down in flames.
People want to see things go wrong. Not all people but a lot. So give them a good show- Win all the time!
Other people are watching you to learn from you. Some people need a leader. So lead. And do it the right way. Let them know the right way by doing the right thing consistently. Lead by doing. Lastly, some people are watching because they see potential in you. Don’t disappoint them. They may be the client or the connection that takes you to your dreams.

-Respect.
Give it. All the time. That people have to earn it line is kind of nutty. Offer up respect at every opportunity. Ghandi, Martin Luther King- they didn’t curse, they didn’t spit. They were respectful in obtaining rights that were theirs to begin with. Do the same.
Leadership is setting the tone and doing it right. ALWAYS.

-Watch your tongue.
Cursing all over the place is horrid. It makes you seem the ogre. You look uncouth and actually, you are. Even when upset temper your speech. Don’t be a sailor swearing up and down the coastline. Don’t insult underlings or coworkers who make mistakes either. It won’t build your rep or get things done faster. Lead by treating others how you want to be treated. And skip the gossip. Leaders don’t do it. Period. And once you’re known as a gossip it will affect your business. People might like the gossip but don’t trust the gossiper and won’t buy your brand. Say nothing if you have to.

-How you say something is as important as what you say.
simple and to the point. Say it nicely, respectfully, tactfully. You get more done by how you say than what you say. Get people excited. Motivate them. I won’t belabor this point as its so clean.

Freedom is found in your Finances

24 Aug

Freedom is found in your Finances.

‘Lastly keep a keen eye on the finances. We’ll discuss that next time folks.’

Well folks that moment is here and I have a great set of ideas and facts to help you.
Keep in mind I’m no expert or licensed CPA and or FInancial advisor. I’m simply sharing what I’ve learned and encouraging you to seek out further growth and expertise from those who can shape your fiscal future.

Freedom being found in the financials is almost an oxymoron in most peoples minds. Money, taxes, costs and revenue are practically the devil when they should be a breath of fresh air to all moguls. The sad fact is the details that make money work are the very things that scare most people.

Now I’ve a got a few clues and a few ideas to get you where you need to be.
Let’s unpack this people.

Whether you have bills or not you need a budget. Start with your monthly income. Whether you work off the books or on you need to know what you take home on average. I recommend you work on the books as every dollar you make is bankable towards your future.
Add up your monthly income and arrive at a total. Next add your expenses up- cell phone, cigarettes, metro card, insurance groceries. Everything until you have a clear picture of what you spend monthly not just your bills.
From there see if the two number match or if you are running a surplus or a deficit.
Now let’s assume you bring home 3200 and your bills are 3100. In this case you have a small surplus. And it should be used to either build a safety cushion for future issues or to pay down current debt. If you see that cash as free money or mad money you won’t survive the next recession/depression. Sorry folks but we all need a plan. I personally save almost nothing- why? All my credit cards have a debt relief plan. Also you can’t erase debt on cc’s in a bankruptcy. However you can’t rebuild as fast as you can clear. Now I’ve never used this strategy. I don’t even recommend it but you see the use? What we need to do as business people is now the limits of our dollars. And to do that always pay your bills and debts first. I don’t care how small- pay the bills first! Next take what’s left and pay off more bills. Either remove debts or be ahead of debts. That’s sound financial strategy my friends.
Also, look for cheaper insurance and cell phone/ internet/ cable plans. Bundling may save you money. So look into it.

A few more points:

-A Good Cpa.
A good cpa will find you money and deductions not hide from the irs’ eye. Many tax preparers’ will tell you to take the automatic, minimal deductions for your business. However that helps them and their licenses’ not you. Remember you get what you pay for and the cheapest cpa/ tax prep person isn’t your best friend.

-Good software.
Good software helps. A LOT.
Why? Simple. The easier it is to track your expenses the better your records will be. The company I use shows real time usage, and deductions and links to ALL my checking accounts, credit cards, et al. This puts me at ease as I know I can be lax. I only have to input my customers, clients, prospects, and new team members as I meet and or sign them up. So simple, so freeing.

-Receipts.
Even with great software I keep all my receipts. I also mark the date in blank ink and any correlating data as well on the back of the receipts. If you sign a client or partner in a restaurant or bar you get deductions as well. So next—

-What you can deduct.
If you sign people at certain venues and certain cost points you will win. Meals, phone bills, office rent, and many more options are available to a serious mogul. Get your paperwork in order, get a real CPa and you will prosper. Remember spending money on you business is necessary. However losing money on a new or existing venture isn’t.

-Debt control.
Controlling debt, public and private is key. Know the difference. You can spend money on your business, for your business, and from said businesses credit when you set things up properly. Pay off the debts of any and all businesses first so you are in the green sooner. This will ensure you win.

-Spending is good.
Autoships, company letterhead, insurance policies, etc are all useful expenses. Not everything will get you a deduction but if you can legitimately spend a dollar to get your venture off the ground you will win!
Money spent on training, mentors, and advertising is well spent. So long as you don’t go to the person(s) who seems creepy or isn’t making you money.
In life and in business you need to spend money to make money so spend it wisely.

Bonus- Money comes with math and emotions.
So make sure your math, their emotions, and your emotions are all in sync. If not you are wasting time. You need to bond with people to create an empire. When you don’t you have nothing. Make a choice.
